I do get overly excited about ponies sometimes... I try to keep it under control.

That's why I'm so glad I have Qwaychou on speed-dial - Someone I can talk ponies with without them telling me to simmer down.. My Mom always listens and so does my best friend but everyone else well....

My family let's me rant about ponies all I want, but I can totally tell that they don't care and are only trying to be supportive. hee hee
My husband, however, seems to actually want to know what's going on in Ponyland. He's always asking me questions about new ponies that are coming out and which ones I want.
I'm sorry that your friend was so harsh toward you, StonerKitty. She certainly could have been nicer about it.

I don't talk about my ponies to my friends, I have no clue why they would want to hear about them in first place. Not too many people share our interest and I know when I have to listen to someone talk about something I'm not interested in, it makes me want to smash my head into a wall.
Though I did get the guys at work going yesterday when I brought in a custom to work on, lol, after they were done with the wtf looks, of course.

When someone is enthusiastic and excited about something, it is natural to want to share that with someone. I know my husband is not truly interested in my ponies but he always listens and comments when I tell him stuff. I do the same thing when he is talking about something he read in Popular Mechanics.
Sometimes it can be a bit tiresome to be on the other end of someone enthusing but there are so many more polite ways to tell them to tone it down. I am sorry your friend was not as sensitive as she could have been.

I try to hardly ever talk about them outside of the community and a few friends...no one wants to hear about them...Most people have no idea I collect unless they ask about my calendar or the ponies at my desk...

Yeah this is hard for me, too. I used to talk about ponies all the time. My previous BFs complained about it and I shrugged it off, but then when some of my friends started mentioning it (they weren't being rude per se, just said things like "you know, you do talk about ponies a lot"), I realized that I should censor myself more. And censoring yourself is very hard; it's hard not to talk about something you like so much to your friends and family!
I guess I am kind of lucky, even though I don't have any friends who collect IRL, I do have one friend who is pretty supportive; he actually has gone out of his way to ask me about ponies on a couple occasions, and believe it or not I actually convinced him to sign up for an account here! (Although he has yet to make a post *sigh*)
If you ever feel like chatting about ponies and you don't have any collector friends around, feel free to chat with me on AIM if you like; I always enjoy that (PM me with your AIM sn if you want to.)

I make a habit of not talking about ponies with people who aren't interested unless:
1. They ask first.
2. It's a passing comment, like if someone asked me what I did the day before I'll say I was washing ponies for trades or toy shopping, but then I don't elaborate unless they ask.
I do talk about them a lot with my best friend and partner, but in that case:
1. These people know me well enough that I won't be offended if they say they've heard enough and want to talk about something else. Because I do the same to them.
2. I have to listen to my best friend talk about GI Joes and my partner talk about gross medical stuff, so they have to hear about ponies.

yea I learned my lesson with talking too much, I get ignored even if I'm not talking about ponies now at school. I've never been one to keep many friends but I have my roller derby teammates now and one of them, their daughter LOVES ponies more than me but then she is four. I unlike her I can't sing to all the g3 songs one the MLP website

I know...
I've learned to not say anything around most people, but...
My hubby has learned to deal with it by just being silent for a while then randomly interrupting me with something else. That's his way of saying, "I've pretended to listen long enough, now it's your turn."
