I am just kind of tossing the idea around in my head a little, but I wanted to find out if anyone has ever attended a doll meet-up/swap party where basically, you bring in doll clothes and trade with other people in your local area. Sort of like a pony meet, only focused on dolls.

I have a few different doll types, and they all can't share clothing. Plus, I've gotten bored with quite a few dresses, and I don't want to go through the effort of listing them for sale. So I was thinking, maybe other people with multiple dolls have the same problem I am having!

I would have to create separate categories for different doll sizes. Barbie, Pullips, American Girl, Bratz, the list goes on, but keeping clothes together that are likely to fit the same type of doll is a good way to stay organized. That way, I can have a shelf or a bin for each doll type's clothing, and as people come in, they can drop off what they brought and easily find what they are looking for!

I also don't really know how to advertise the message IF I do decide to have the swap. Many of these dolls are still considered actual toys, so posting in the antique/collectibles areas does me no good. I'd probably have to spread the word through various businesses and hope they pass it on to their customers with young kids. Cuz I'm sure not going up to people with their kids and trying to advertise!

Any advice would be appreciated.

well, what may work for advertising, which I thought was fun for the 2005 MLP convention is that they took little slips of paper and slid them in the front cardboard of the MLP boxes in the shops that were all around mall of america. Just mentioning a my little pony convention /for collectors/ and then when and where it was, the website, etc.

maybe you could do something similar?

(kinda on but off topic) I'd love to start an online dolly clothing swapbox, much like the pony ones held here. I kinda fear they'd end up badly though.

Can you put an advert in your local paper, craigslist or maybe freecycle (if they'd allow that? bet they wouldn't)

An online swap box would be awesome, but as you said, AB, it can go really great or really badly. I'd have to think a bit about how to do that fairly, but thanks for the idea! Happy

Maybe the online one would be best to randomize who gets what. Like uhhhh... everyone puts in a dress that is at least knee-length, then we assign the different dresses numbers and run them through a randomizer, match them up with everyone's random ID # we create for this or something... And all the dresses are sent to the host, who re-distributes accordingly. Or we can do all the show-off of the outfits online and then exchange addresses when the randomizer gets finished. *shrugs*
I'm liking the online idea but it requires all participants to take pictures and agree to certain standards for the swap.

Hmmmm... think think think... *Winnie-the-Pooh thinking face*

I would but I don't have clothes as is so I couldn't honestly contribute. Sad well except for some ugly shoes that smell like cigarettes and I'm sure no one wants those.
