Personally I don't mind putting Hasbro in their place. After all, I'm their customer, the one ponying up greenbacks to put steak on their tables and black on their boots. As far as exclusive ponies go, I sure don't have a Bay Breeze, and Hasbro isn't paying my plane ticket so I can go to the fair. (She is not really "free" in that sense!) Too, I would find it hard to believe that providing an exclusive pony on a limited basis is any kind of sacrifice on Hasbro's part. For them that's just promotion, and I think they wouldn't do it if they didn't feel it was going to benefit them.
Not to mention that the Fair itself is entirely put on by collectors - a ton of work - and it promotes and advertises MLP in a way that Hasbro can't. It does them and the brand a huge favor. I think Hasbro ought to be thanking the people who put all the labor into the fair!
Sorry if this is sounding bleak, but since Hasbro cannot even fix the rock-hard, finger-cutting clumps of tail glue, and won't respond in anything but form letters to the numerous complaints about the packaging that damages the ponies and has not been remedied, I'm doubting they are doing stuff out of kindness to the collectors...
I think Bay Breeze is really cute, but I really hope she is NOT an exclusive of any kind, as that just makes her more difficult and expensive to purchase, especially for people in other countries who would have even less access to her. I think there are already way too many exclusives and HTFs. I just hope she becomes part of the regular line so the majority of people will get to have her.

| Also, maybe the Bay Breeze in stores won't be scented. (To me, she smells like Lubriderm Lotion. Nice smell!) |
I was thinking maybe she wasn't meant to be smelly? Is it possible that she was made on the same machinery as the smellies, and just absorbed the smell inadvertently? Or, since she has a raised symbol, maybe she will be part of another set of four that will combine the dream design and the smelliness?

Hmm, that's an interesting thought, Turquoise. I'm not sure, because she has a very distinct scent...do you suppose they'd all be smelly if it were a factory accident?

personally, I think she's a cutie- and true to my form, I'm going to have a hard time not ripping her out of the plastic bag when she arrives- I'm hoping it's not too long until she's mass released so I can tear open one of those packages
(I like her cause I adore that pose...and her colors are sweet and delicate, but gotta agree, the name's a puzzler!)

I really don't understand why collectors who have such anger towards Hasbro would continue to collect ponies at all. And allowing the Fair visitors to take home Bay Breeze IS a kind gesture on the part of Hasbro, regardless of whether or not it was a "sacrifice." Since when does kindness imply sacrifice anyway? And it's sort of hard to say that it is self-promotion for them to give out a free pony at a PONY Fair...maybe at a general toy fair, but what is the point of preaching to the converted, other than to make their customers happier?
Sorry if this sounds snippy, but the whole multi-page thread complaining about Bay Breeze really just seems like a bunch of sour grapes to me.

I don't think I could have said this any better Lucky Leaf- Does Hasbro really need to promote itself at a pony fair? Kindness is there- they did this so the attendees could have a nice memento and reward for being dedicated collectors. A cool move on their part in my eyes- the quality control complaints against Hasbro really shouldn't spill over into this treat, because well, what's the connection between the two, really?
Just my two cents

I agree with Diamond and Lucky Leaf. If those collectors were so determined to put on a fair and the people who attended had to fly or drive a while to get there then it seems to me that Hasbro is doing something special for the collectors.
I have seen some quality control issues as well, but rather than get angry I feel that it makes my pony collection unique. Each pony with her own personality that her own traits dictate. If I have doubles of a pony and go to sell one then I usually sell the mintier one. Perhaps I am just nuts.

I barely do collect. This is why it's frustrating. It's to the point now where I skip over the majority of ponies due to flaws, defects, and just bad design. I collect less than 10% of the line, for sure. I do not have 'anger' toward Hasbro, because I know they are just trying to maximize their profit as much as possible. This is only sensible from their point of view - the core consumers for them are the little kids who don't notice the flaws, so there is no reason for Hasbro to be sensitive to the collectors' needs.

Perhaps it is, but not much of one. 300 ponies at their price is less than $1000 for sure, a tiny investment for getting a weekend of free advertising and promotion for them and their brand in a major city. (For them, even making a single commercial costs a lot more than that.) Donating ponies also gets them notoriety - Now the Fair is "sponsored in part by Hasbro," and look at their logo there.
I don't think it's about preaching to the converted as much as getting the awareness out there that there are a lot of pony collectors, adults and kids alike- enough that they have a convention. I think that does speak to the public just by spreading the word. After all, why would they make TV commercials and put them on during kids' shows?... Isn't that 'preaching to the converted' as well? Perhaps, but it still gets the word out and spreads awareness that Hasbro and MLP are still here and as popular as ever. The fair, too, makes a statement on the public that collecting is not just for kids. It has the potential to influence people and help make MLP a household brand.

I'm saying that Hasbro has had PLENTY of opportunity to show kindness to collectors in ways that would really be meaningful and well-received (literally, in ways I have *pleaded* for), and they have not responded to any of them. If Hasbro is really trying to be kind and considerate, why don't they fix some of the flaws so we don't have to go searching through the racks just to find one of the new ponies that doesn't have glue all over and frizzy hair? I think the reason is that they think it would cut into their profits too much to actually be worth doing.
They're a business out to make money (and that's fine), and they want a little bit of positive PR to make them look friendly in the public's eyes. (And it obviously works!) But I don't think of them as "kind" to collectors. I have a business relationship with Hasbro - nothing more.
And yeah, if Hasbro is so kind to us, where IS the response to the actual problems? Too expensive, not worth addressing. They don't want to have to actually make expensive *changes* out of kindness. Better to just throw a few ponies our way. That is so easy for them, costs almost nothing, and makes them look so generous lol.

Yeah, maybe not. But who knows how well they clean out their machines lol? Or how potent the smells are? Sometime when they make cologne they use a "sticking agent" ? Which is like skunk juice that makes the smell linger for a long time, so it could be possible !
How strong is the smell on Bay Breeze? Is it as strong as on the Scented ponies? lol Maybe Hasbro is trying to create a new smell for the entire G3 line? You know how G1 had "that smell" ? It would be so neat if Hasbro made a sweet, perfumey smell for G3s, to fix that gross, nylon essence they have now.

With regards to the problem of Hasbro addressing the problems about quality control, they could do far better. A couple of days ago, I emailed Flair about a problem with a brand new Sylvanian Families figure, and they mailed me a new one straight away - without me sending them a picture of the problem or sending the figure back. And flair are usually just as awful - they handled the later G2s, remember?
It wouldn't hurt hasbro to replace the crappy ponies... after all, they make a bucketload of money from us, especially in the UK as ponies cost twice as much to buy here as it does in America. Its good business to keep your customers happy - and especially as they must be aware that there are far more adult collectors than child collectors.
