just take a deep breath (it's happened to just about eveyone on ebay at least once). The next time you're eyeballing a pony you want really bad, use a snipe site. It seems unfair, but that's probably what happened to you, and sometimes it's the only way...

Gypsy- it's a web site that will bid for you at the last possible moment. I wasn't comfortable with the fact that they need to use your id and password. I'm a nervous nellie, so I'm sticking with one snipe site to limit the chances of anything wrong happening. My husband suggested them. He runs a business and needs passward security. He contacted eBay who said they haven't had security problems with most of them- meaning the sites were generally legit and on the up and up. Do a search for snipe and auction and they'll come up. Most have some sort of free trial.

I'm sorry. Sad I hope you do get your grail. Smile I don't like the sound of that snipe site. It's unfair. You deserved that pony because you actually bidded and that other person cheated in my opinion. Totally not fair. Mad

I disagree, Majesty. First of all, how fair is it of you to assume that this person used a snipe site? I've won a lot of Ebay auctions by just being online when it ends so I can bid at the last second.

Second of all, nobody "deserves" anything from ebay. There's nothing fair or unfair about it. If you bid the most money, you win. Regardless of whether this person "cheated" or not (I don't know anything about these snipe sites, so I can't comment) they bid the most. The seller gets the most money they can, which is all that matters in the end, since the seller is the only one paying money to ebay.

Sorry to go on a rant like this. It's been a loooong day and I've seen one too many "it's not fair!" ebay posts. It sucks for jupiter, really bad, but fairness has nothing to do with it.

I often wait until the last minute myself, i'll only snipe if I can't be there for something I want badly. Sometimes bidding too early can work against you.

I admit I'm a sniper, but not with a snipe site. I'm sure I've upset many people, and I've also been upset by others. The way I look at it is it wasn't meant to be yet. She'll come along again and it may even be a better deal! Smile

Hug I am sorry you lost out on her again. Hopefully you will win her soon or better yet like gypsy said find her at a thrift store or flea market for a great price!

I'm so sorry you lost your grail. *comforting pat*

I'm a sniper. I've never used a site, but when I see something I really want I stalk her like a cat and pounce at the last moment. Many times I've still lost an auction because my snipe bid didn't beat the previous bidders.

ETA: Oh yeah, I wanted to say that there's always another chance. I thought I'd lost a pony I really wanted. But then I found another one in an unexpected place and for a lot cheaper than I was about to pay for her the first time.

i got sniped on a huge lot once that was a reaallllllly good deal (all baits) and the sniper had like 3 feedback and was new. i was soooo miffed!!!!!! but then a week later the seller emailed me and told me the buyer never responded or paid, so i got it for my highest last bid! it made my day, and i still have some of those baits....it was 130+ for 50 bucks

sucks about cool breeze, if i had one id give her to you Smile

Sorry but sniping is not cheating Smile It's crap when it happens to you, but you can always do it too...it's a pretty common way for people to win auctions. I never use a site to do it for me though (don't you have to pay them to snipe for you??), I just refresh the page constantly and bid in the last few seconds. Even then you might not win though if the other bidder has put a really high maximum bid in.

OK i use a sniper programme alot why because i either dont have time or will forget to bid also my connection can be slow at times.
But its not cheating its not unfair and its within the rules otherwise you wouldnt be able to do it.
After all the idea is the person that prepared to pay the most wins and the seller makes more money and ebay gets more FVF so every ones happy.
Yes it costs to use these snipe sites but not much.
I personally would rather place my max with auction sniper and walk away if i won great if i lose some one was prepared to pay more *shrugs*
Good luck in your future auctions Smile

I think the reason I don't use a sniping site is because I really love the thrill of watching the auction and bidding at the end. Sometimes I bid in the last 10 seconds and I don't win. I don't have enough time to bid again; I lost fair and square. That sucks and I move on. But when I win, it's a really good feeling. Using a site doesn't give you an edge over doing it by hand, you can still lose if your bid isn't high enough. But I'd miss out on chase, I guess.
