One of my friends has SA Bowtie, very cool, and I've seen a pic of SA Bubbles once.

Thanks for the spotlight!

Wow! I was born and grew up in SA, and I never realized there was anything different about our ponies!

I'm curious though - did Prima ever import any ponies? The reason I'm asking, is all of my ponies in storage are from SA, and I'm absolutely certain I have a Tapdancer, Bouquet, a Flutterby and a Tex , the last two I'm almost certain didn't have rooted tails (I have GOT to fish those out and have a look at them). My sister had a Galaxy that sticks in my mind as having the SA Moondancer's shaped face (I'll have to check that one too), and I know she has a family set, and a Surprise (which I really wanted, he he). If I manage to find them, I'll take some photos, and post them here.

Are the G3's from SA noticably different from other places?

Alright, good news, half-way news, and inconvenient-ish news.

Good news - I found my SA ponies, and there's a Rosedust with them I forgot about!

Half way news - they're FILTHY! (Apparently you never notice that sort of thing when you're a child . . .) Will have to wash them off before submitting pics. Here's the hoof marks I can make out - Rosedust:©86 HASBRO BRADLEY PAT PEND MADE IN CHINA; Bouquet:©85 HASBRO BRADLEY MADE IN CHINA; Tapdancer:©84 HASBRO CHINA; Tex:©87 HASBRO INC PAT PEND MADE IN HONG KONG. All of them except Rosedust an Flutterby have blue eyes (they have pink and purple respectively)

Inconvenient-ish news - turns out my sister's ponies weren't stashed with mine, so I'll have to hunt around for them.

Here's some history to add to your info, that might influence ponies coming out of South Africa. I was chatting to my Dad, who was in the baby product industry back in SA, and he brought up a really interesting point. Two gentlemen named Bernard Akal and James Bell opened toy stores called Reggies and Toys R Us (origionally NOT the American chain - the SA stores had the 'r' flipped the other way around, and were only bought out by the American company in the 90s) in SA, both selling MLP. The thing is, Mr Bell tended to import many of his toy lines directly from China, bypassing manufacturers in SA. So there is an excellent chance that he may have brought in some non-SA ponies at the same time as the Prima ponies! (Which may explain why my ponies look more like the normal Hong Kong ponies.)

Erm, so do you have any of the funky looking ones?

That's great inside information though! I love learning those extra bits.

Nope - they all look like regular ponies to me. They all have the normal tails, matching body parts . . . I'm still keen to find my sister's stash, though. I would have thought I would have had at least one of the Prima versions (I'm the older sister, so logically I should have had older ponies, dammit Wink ).

That's cool you found your ponies! Smile

I'm fairly sure that SA did import ponies as well as have their own ones. From what I've gathered before, at least some of their stock came from Hasbro UK.

Interesting! Since I live in South Africa it never even occured to me that some of my MLP might be South African LOL How would I be able to tell that? you saw them in my post here: www.mlparena.com/Forum...01563.html

Only two of my G1 ponies say Made in Hong Kong at the bottom of their feet - Crunch Berry, but it says copyright 87 Hasbro on one of the feet... and my G1 Baby Cotton Candy looks exactly like this one mlpland.com/?l=2&p...amp;id=580 says made in Hong Kong copyright Hasbro 1984 pat pend

As far as I know the G3 ponies look the same here as the US ones...

well, ive never actually seen an SA pony in real life but from what ive learned here on the nirvana forum i think a pretty good way to tell would be the tail. they are inserted in a really weird way. plus the symbols seem to be really different from the US versions. eyes are different hair i smore coarse etc...
love to know if you have any!!! how exciting would that be! Smile
