#1: Styling pony hair on new G3s? How do you do it? Author: Mew_chan, Location: Brisbane, AustraliaPosted: 0 ---- Ok so in alot of pictures you guys show of your ponies (mainly on G3s and nicer G1s) their hair is so neatly controlled and looks so silky and seems so smooth and undercontrol.
Here is an example of what I mean:
or this is even nicer
I want to know what you guys do to their hair to make it like that because no G3 I have ever pulled out of its packet has ever had hair that nice and under control! In fact it is usually the opposite.
I know of the conditioning and straightening method usually done on frizzy or unrully hair, but is this all you guys do to make it so undercontrol? At home I only have a cheap straightener. I would rather not get my ponies wet at all so I was kind of hoping there was a different method for achieving this look. Also infomation on achiving some awesome curls would be great too.

Author: ashes, Location: CaliforniaPosted: 0 ---- I usually get the hair somewhat damp, but you could try just brushing the hair really well, then wrapping it around the neck and fastening it with a hair tye (use the ones that don't have a metal clamp). But I think you would need to leave it for a few days to take effect.
As for curls, I wouldn't know how to do that besides getting the hair wet. But I'm sure someone might!

Author: Wind_Whistler, Location: New ZealandPosted: 0 ---- well unfortunately G3 hair is just far cheaper than G1 hair so it will never be as nice no matter what you do to it, however I always just give mine a condition and wrap it round the leg and it stays soft and silky on display.

Author: allgoodstrading, Location: Index WAPosted: 0 ---- I think there are some great curl tutorials around here somewhere, try looking in the custom forum. Personally I just wash the hair with shampoo and a little conditioner, sometimes there are chemicals from the factory that make the hair icky. then either wrap around her neck and let it dry, or curl it with the smallest foam curlers I can find, some perm rods work well too. Use a paper towel cut into strips to help with the ends of the hair around the curler. I hope this helps

Especially the G3 ponies with bad box hair... conditioner combed through will really help tame it and hot water will help straighten out the kinks. After you rinse the conditioner comb out the excess water and then pat it dry with a towel. The you can get to styling. The easiest thing is to just wrap the mane around the neck, sometimes I have actually used a strip of that Glad Press N Seal stuff to keep it in place! The tail you can just wrap around the back leg and I usually either lean it against another drying pony to keep the tail from uncurling while it dries. Here are some tutorials too that show how to make curls and things:

I think there are a few tutorials in one of the stickies in this forum.

Put a pea-sized amount of lotion on your palm, lather it up a bit, and apply to Pony's hair...
you may use a bit more, but not too much that the hair would be dripping of lotion.
After applying lotion, just brush and style to your liking.
examples...
You don't have to worry about residue, just as long as you don't go overboard with the lotion.

Just wrap the tips of the hair in toilet paper, roll it, and use little claw clips to hold it in place. Use a misting bottle to wet it down slightly, and then leave it to sit overnight. I've found that straws are too flimsy, but that's probably because I buy the cheap dollar store straws [my kids go through them like crazy].
Aside from wet styling, I use a brushing technique that tames and cuts down on frizz too. Just use a people comb, like the kind a barber would use, and starting at the tips of the hair, work out the tangles. Then move on up a half inch at a time, working the tangles down to the tips and out.
Most importantly, while you are doing the combing, hold the hair against your palm or your leg while you are combing it. Once the the tangles are out, wrap the end of the hair around your finger in the direction you want it to bend, comb it against your finger a few times until the hair starts to stay in that position. Then put your lips against it and blow hot breath directly on it to steam it somewhat. Pull tight, and then let go. It should lay nicely.
[this is good for taming box hair or unruly silky hair, NOT fixing major problems.]
Good luck!

#10: Re: Styling pony hair on new G3s? How do you do it? Author: Blitzn, Location: USAPosted: 0 ---- I just use a bit of warm water on taming box hair. Brush it out gently and wrap it around the neck/leg.
IF it's really bad, I may use some fabric softener (instead of conditioner since conditioner has oil, perfumes, and dyes made for human hair). And if it's REALLY bad (Frizzy mess), I may use a flat iron on wet hair.
