I’ve only been on the Arena for about a year, but if you know me from another pony board you know I am crazy in that I like to document trips by taking ponies along and giving a tour from their point of view. I visited my cousin in the Florida Keys for the first time, so I thought I’d share some photos. I tried to get the ponies in as many photos as possible. If you have never been to the Keys and you love a tropical atmosphere and climate year round, than I would highly recommend it! Hope you enjoy Smile

Princess Peppermint was eagerly awaiting her trip to visit her cousin, Tropical Surprise in the Florida Keys. Even Georgia has had a cold snap, so she was excited to travel to a warmer climate. After hours of traveling she finally began to see palm trees. “I must be getting close!” she exclaimed.

She met Tropical Surprise near the beginning of the Keys. “It’s so great to have you here!” said Tropical Surprise happily. “I can’t wait to show you my home!”

As they entered into the Keys, the ponies saw some beautiful sights. “There are about 1700 islands that make up the Keys,” said Tropical Surprise, “but only about 43 are connected by bridges.” First we will pass through Key Largo- this island is known for having an underwater hotel!”

“Look over there, that’s the tiny island of Pigeon Key,” said Tropical Surprise.

The ponies passed by many marine mammal facilities....

and also lots of restaurants with a true island feel.

Tropical Surprise took Princess Peppermint off the main highway. “Let’s stop and explore a back road,” she said.

“Wow, look over there!” shouted Princess Peppermint. “It’s an iguana!” “There’s lots of them, Princess!” exclaimed Tropical Surprise. “The islands are home to many different species of animals.”

The ponies got back on the road. “I want to show you Key West,” said Tropical Surprise. “It is the last island you can travel to by road and is the southernmost point of the continental United States. It is a hotspot for ponies to travel to and it has lots of sights to see!” On the way, the ponies entered a long bridge known as the Seven Mile Bridge. “From this bridge you can see a walking trail and also the original railroad tracks ponies in the 1920s used before the highway was built,” said Tropical Surprise.

Then, later the ponies entered Summerland Key (The sign is hard to make out). “We are getting close to Key West!” said Tropical Surprise excitedly.

After traveling about three hours from the start of the Keys, the ponies arrived in Key West. “There’s so much to so here!” exclaimed Tropical Surprise. “We can go snorkeling, or swim with dolphins, or go sailing!”

“Look Princess, we are entering downtown Key West!” “I can’t believe how nice everypony is here,” said Princess. “Yes,” said Tropical Surprise. “Everypony here just loves to have a good time. The streets really come alive at night.”

Tropical Surprise took Princess Peppermint to her favorite restaurant, called Blue Heaven. “I love the atmosphere!” exclaimed Princess. “Most every restaurant here is open or outdoors,” said Tropical Surprise. “Blue Heaven is known for having the island’s native roosters running around freely. There are also many cats that roam around the restaurant premises.”

While waiting for their table, Tropical Surprise spotted a large, winged carousel horse!

“Let’s check out the gift shop!” said Princess.

After eating, the ponies hit the beach. “There are actually only a few beaches here,” said Tropical Surprise. “Since the islands are very rocky, sand on the islands’ beaches has been imported. But no matter where you are in the Keys, you are never far from the water.” “I love it here!” said Princess happily. “I can’t wait to visit again!”
