How do you do it? I'm working on painting a couple ponies, but I haven't been able to do the bottom of their feet yet. If I did - they'd be wet and then sitting on it. Huh Not good, right?

So how do you do it? Do you get the body looking how you want, and then do the feet separate so you can lay the pony down? Or is there some other trick? Smile

Hmmmm usually I just paint their hooves while doing their bodies. By the time I get to their hooves their body is partially dry in places so I can hold onto her while she finishes drying.

I'm very random on where I paint so almost always there's somewhere dry she can lay/prop on.

I normally paint with something jammed into the neck hole, like the handle of a screw driver. Then I can hold onto that while I paint, and set the handle on the table and pony hanging off. Otherwise I'll paint the hooves first, set her on her neck so her feet are straight up, and then paint the rest once they're dry.

I paint them while the heads are off, and most pony bodies will balance if you set them down on the neck hole. So I just paint the whole thing and let them dry upside down.

I paint my bodies and heads separately. I usually keep my finger in the ponies body (where the head should be) and then set them on a little stick thing to dry.

Pic of stick thing...

Maybe I should get/make a stick thing too. Looks very handy. Smile

Oooh, I could use one of those too. Smile Their heads are separate, but because of the pose it won't balance on the neck ring. That peg thing would work well.

Would someone be able to make me that stick thing but with fatter sticks just big enough to where the pony fits snugly? I have an awful time keeping ponies from falling and getting stuff stuck in there hair since I can't hld them while I paint. I'd be willing to pay of course. XD

I paint with very thin coats in multiple layers at a time, so there's almost always a dry side for me to lay the pony down on. If for some reason there's not, I thread the neck hole onto the end of a wire music stand. Since the outside edges of the music stand are angled up about 30 degrees, there's no risk of the pony sliding off or the stand falling over.

I usually use a fork or knife for painting. I put the shaft into the pony's leg or head and the head of them into the chink of our table where I always paint (we have an extensile table). I don't know if you can imagine it, it you can't post her and I will take a pic Wink
