Are you guys tired of me asking questions yet? :nervous:
Gah! Alright... I recently got a pretty unicorn bait pony to use for a custom. I pulled out all her hair and removed her symbols using Acetone (as I saw recommended here in another thread on symbol removing). They came off nicely, aside from the fact that she had glitter on her and that was a little more tricky to take off. Whew! All done.
So today I mixed up my Rit Scarlet dye and planned to dye her a nice red (She was originally a bright pink). I wash her off to make sure there is no 'gunk' on her (Just water and some soap, followed by lots and lots of rinsing. She then sat and dried completely).
So I followed the instructions on the package, used water as hot as I could stand it, and got her ready for her bath. In she went, yay happiness!.... Well, after several minutes I noticed that the spots where I had removed her symbols were not taking dye as well as the rest of her! It wasn't a harsh edge, like when there is glue on the body, but it was barely dying. After several attempts to try and hold those affected areas in the dye and keep the rest out of it, it proved to have little results.
It's not super noticable, and I planned to cover those areas anyway with symbols (Not a total loss, whew!) but I do plan to dye several more ponies soon. Now I'm unsure as to what to use to remove their symbols. Should I try and wait longer between using the Acetone and dye? Is there another product I should use to remove the original symbols? Do you think there was something else that could've gone wrong to cause this? If I try dying her again later, do you think it might work?
Poor pony... Her hip and hoof are now a dark pink whereas the rest of her body is a lovely ruby x-D Oh dear....

that happens when you take acetone to a pony, I suggest before you give it a bath to wipe the WHOLE pony down in the acertone. I ran into that problem too. But nothing a full rub down didn't cure for the next one.
This one is stuck the way it is. But your next one just wipe the whole custom a bit in the acertone and it should take die evenly.

It's great to ask questions, and there is such a vast knowledge available here so keep asking!
It's always better to remove all paint before dyeing, as you might be left with spots where the dye hasn't taken as well... and you might not be able to cover it with the new symbol! Better safe than sorry!
I've never had trouble with dye not taking, except on the neckline where there might be glue residue... but I do clean the whole pony with acetone!

I use Goof-Off to remove paint myself...I just make sure to wash the pony off before dying as well as check for excess glue spots.

Lots of really good suggestions here. Thanks all! Much appreciated. Hopefully my next dye job won't be such a let-down.
