Last night, i was thinking about the fair. I've been collecting for at least about 7-8 years now and not once have i ever attended the MLP Fair, only local MLP fairs in NY. And the more i thought about it, the more i felt like crap. Am i the only one who has never gone? Am i really a true collector for not meeting my fellow collectors on here? Would i even stand out if i did go because everyone met each other already? I just don't feel like a worthy collector on here..

Maybe it's just me but i'm 23 now, i really have to try and make it to the fair next year. I really would like to meet everyone and bring my ponies a trip that they will so love.

I'm like you, I've been collecting since I was a kid, and to see these fairs that look like so much fun keep passing by is getting depressing. My issue is I'm in Canada (Ontario), and the 10 hour car ride to Rhode Island isn't financially good for me. I think the worst part is seeing these beautiful exclusives pass me by. I become desperate to buy them and usually pay 5-6 times more for that pony.

I feel like total crap.

Last year I promised myself that I would go to the fair this year. No matter what: I'm going.

Then one money problem after another hit, and low and behold, the fair is going on, and my ass is at home.

So yeah... don't feel bad. Life sucks. Just gotta suck it up sometimes. :\

I've been trying to go to a pony fair the past few years, but either something comes up or there's money issues, and I can't go. I've never been to one but I'd love to go. Someday I hope...

I do feel a little sad but I am just going to try really hard to be able to go next year and if not then that will be OK. I don't think it makes me any less of a collector. Smile

I have been collecting for many years too...
But i never had any desire to go to pony fairs or meets.
Mostly because they are so costly. You spend lots of money to get there, only to spend even more money when you get there. I think there just aren't enough activities. (no offence) But maybe i'm more of a solitary collector or a wierdo...
You definatly don't need to go to cons to be a "true collector'. ^^;

But...haven't you been to MLP Fairs in the past, MLPMom? (Sorry if I'm wrong, I just thought I remember you saying you went one year.)

I'm like Traxxx, when I found out this years would be on the east coast about a year ago I planned on going, saved up some money, was totally excited about it, but then due to unforeseen circumstances had to buy a new car, pay for an operation for my cat, and a few other things which wiped out my savings and ultimately meant that I couldn't go. I've been actively collecting for about 7 years (although I guess you could say I've been collecting since I was a child), and I have never been to an MLP Fair.

I feel like major fricken crap right now too. Huh

It has a lot more to do with other things than just not being able to go to the fair though.
This past year has literally (no exaggeration) been the absolute WORST year of my life.

I started coming on here earlier this year, although I've been collecting ponies since 2003. Once I came on here, I got to become a bit more "pony smart" and I learned that last year's fair was in Tennessee. ...and guess where the hell I was living last year? TENNESSEE!! It would have been so easy for me to go. But this year... I moved to Chicago. Rhode Island is way too far away; I definitely couldn't have made it with the money issue I'm in right now.

I've also decided that for the time being, I only want to work on building a collection of "special edition" ponies... like the fair and comic con exclusives... and the occasional custom or two... but it's just so hard to find them at reasonable prices sometimes! >_<

I don't think it makes anybody any "less" of a collector for not attending the fair though. Smile

I say, if I'm having pony packages arrive on my doorstep at least a couple times a week... I'm a collector just about as much as anybody else.... whether I get the chance to attend the fair or not.

Right? Poke Tounge

Sometimes it's just frustrating not being able to afford all the ponies that you want.
...but then that makes you want them 10x more. XD

And then when you finally get them! Wink

It's like OMG!!! lol

Edit for spelling.

Hey there!

I live in Mexico City, so Chicago is like REALLY far away from home LOL...I really wanted to go, 'cause it seems like soo much fun and my ponies loove to travel...anyway I wasn't able to save all the money needed. I don't think not going makes you ANY less of a collector at all! I'm sure you love ponies just as much as anybody else in this forum does! Not having enough money to go is Not your fault honey, that's absolutely normal...What I did was pack some of my ponies and made a low-budget trip to the beach...to make it up to my ponies :-P why don't you also pack some of your cuties and take them to some unexpensive place? they'll be really happy and love you just as much as they've always loved you! ;-) Cheer up! Life is good, you'll have the chance to attend a fair someday! Big Ups

Well, I'm feeling often down, because in real life I have absolutely NO ONE to talk to about ponies. And here, at the Arena there are only few people from my country - but they aren't so actve, at least not in the Coral forum. And I really want to meat other pony people and talk with them! About ponies, about normal day-life, get to know them better, see their collections...

So when I learned that there is a Fair in Germany, so close to me, I was in euphoria! And seeing now, how everyone is having such a great time at the fair, I'm wondering if I'm really the right person to attend it... I'm a G2 collector, so showing off my collection wouldn't be interesting for many collectors. i don't have a lot of winderful and amazing customs to sell or to show off too. And as a begginer in collecting G1's and G3's I don't have any spare ones that I could sell. And I dare to call myself a collector? Pf, that is pathetic from me Sad

Plus I know that a Polish in Germany has a hard time. I love German-speaking countries: I visit Austria at least twice a year for 3 weeks, love to travel to Switzerland and I'm in love with Bavaria in Germany, but it's almost always unpleasent when older people hear that I'm speaking to my parents in polish. So I'm really afraid that I would be really alienated at the European Fair Sad

You all are in a quite different position - either you didin't have money or it was too far, so you couldn't attend. But I have just know that I-wouldn-not-fit-in-there. And believe me: that is worse...

I've never gone either but I guess it's not that big of a deal to me. I can't afford to buy any ponies, and pretty much everything else can be shared via pictures and detailed posts from the lovely members that were able to go.

Now that isn't to say that I wouldn't love going to the fair. But there really isn't any chance of that unless it's held in Texas one year.
