If they want to use this look on Ponyville art, that's fine by me.

I really hope this isn't the art style used to promote the whole line...then again, I don't buy that much G3 merch, so if they choose to use Ponyville-styled ponies on the merch (purses, stickers, backpacks, etc) then it's not like they'll be losing that much money from me. Mostly just for stickers and wrapping paper, but I still have lots of both.

Cheerilee's pigtails are so very weird.

They remind me of the new care bears, which I lOVE but I'm not really liking this look for the ponies...
Maybe if they were smaller or babies with those big heads but I know that'll never happen.

Yeah I think they look terrible. Way too cartoonish. I hope they are just for the trade show like you mentioned in your edit.
I think they look stupid like that. >>;
And if they are sticking to the Core 7 for 2009, that to me is a big disappointment.

Well, this could be a one-time thing, but why would they need to ask some artist to work on a development of the MLP line for 09, and then use this style just once? I mean they already have their MLP style, wouldn't it be easier to just use what they have instead of paying money to think something up for just one time? Poke Tounge

they didnt ASK an ARTIST to come and do development.... the girl... WORKS for hasbro in their development already! and ... she also does some art obviously(probab;y on the side...but she isnt an "artist")... in her art site there wasnt anything other than the two pony art peices (I believe) there were other odd things.... but shes not an MLP artist or anything. as her 'quote' said.... she was just asked to work on that poster w/ two other girls and she just did the pony design... she didnt actually DO the poster!....... not a fact.... but... I DO believe this is justa one time art peice... not a development for the next line! its just cool that hasbro let someone on their design team do something like that extra... it was probably LOADS of fun! and cute fun at that!

I wouldnt be suprised if thats the artwork for the entire line. seems like all of the toylines are taking a more fischerprice approach to things. even action figures are looking cheesy like that. IE the new spider man line, with his big clonky feet and big dopey head and square features. Its so lame.

I think it's cute, not for the whole line, but if used for Ponyville I think it works since the artwork would actually match the ponies then. :]
But it does seem like it's a one time thing (which is kind of a bummer, I'd have liked some stickers or something xD ).

Well, I don't believe that Hasbro would let somebody to just "experiment" this way. Brand marketing is very important, they think through ALL the details (do you remember that MLP Logo booklet somebody took pictures of? They literally told what can be done and what not for every little detail!).

If you have a brand it's very important that all the products and designs that you make support you brand and make one whole, have the same look and feel to them that everybody recognizes. They should have their own distinguished style. I can't believe Hasbro would just tell one of their employees: hey girl, you go have fun, think up something nice, go crazy and we'll use it in a poster! They risk getting something they do NOT want at all, something that doesn't fit in their concept.

G3 artwork was developed to match the line and Hasbro takes care that it's consequent everywhere. It would be more than strange for them to allow such an jumpout. That's why I highly doubt that it was a one-time thing, but time will tell, I guess.

Or maybe... The will be new feature..? Not Ponyville... Not 'normal' MLP... but something different and new? That would be cool! I would even forgive Hasbro for doing the Core 7 Poke Tounge

in what the artist said... it seams hasbro just asked this girl and two others to do a special poster for this, one time only thing.... so like a unique poster... NOT pony art... or concept art for future ponies....she just works in the design and development..... this was just a unique poster for the trade show...

heres what the artist says:

Quote::
I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been working deep in development on Hasbro's "My Little Pony" for several months now, developing their new line up for '09. A few weeks ago, three of us (on the Pony crew) were tapped to collaborate on a trade show poster. And so, here is the end result.

I take credit for the character design while Kathy Carr and Sean Platter lent their layout and digital painting awesomeness on this project. If you're wondering why the upper left-hand corner looks somewhat blank, the space is actually alloted for the official "My Little Pony" logo.
Interesting that they would got to all that trouble for a one time thing though.

Goldenclopper I was thinking the same thing about the Care Bears!

LOL it's only a picture, sure Hasbro can experiment. Smile And it's not like they just draw something up like that, there would be someone who's there to edit and approve the designs to make sure they meet their target objective.

It's not "just"a picture, ít's a poster promoting MLP line! Wink They can experiment behind the stages, but I'm sure everything we get to see is well thought through and fits within their view of MLP brand. If they decide to use this as a Trader Show poster, I'd think it's the way they see MLP brand now.

G1 art is also very consequent and though all the years the style never changed. If they would all of a sudden do something in a G3 style, nobody would understand it and go like huh?? But ponies aren't like this at all?

That's why I'd be surprised they'd do this whole look just for nothing, as a one-time thing... But hey, that's my opinion. Poke Tounge Maybe somebody at the Fair can ask what their plans really are!!!
