Great pictures sweetlittlejenny!
It looks like you may be making your plugs a bit thick. If it works, great. My experience has been thicker plugs are more difficult to work with and you get torn plug holes.
When you are using the method Jenny showed, you have pretty thin plugs to start with because you are folding it in half to get the correct thickness. It will look way too skimpy but once it is folded in half (to get the desired thickness) and in the neck, it looks fine.
I know when I was starting, I made them way too thick because thinner ones looked so skimpy. It took some trial and error to get the correct thickness. Dollyhair skeins seem to natural separate into nice plug thickness.
I use dental floss in the method sweetlittlejenny showed, fishing line works too.

Thanks Ravenclaw, I see now that my plugs are a little thick, my next rehair is a Cherries Jubilee restoration, so I will heed your advice!

LOL I'm glad that they found you a really good example to explain how to do that right...I personally gave up on the needle thread method because it took me too long to feel like I had accomplished anything. So I do the finger wrap hook on tool and push into head method now with a re-root tool. The wrap pops open once off the tool and hair stays in plug hole however you do need to slather the loops inside the head with glue when complete. So far this method has been very sucessful for me. I also understand the want to know that the hair is bound with knots.

I switched from needle and thread to rehair tool. I love it! Instead of taking 3 hours to rehair a head I can turn them out in about 30 minutes! I'll never go back to needle and thread! In fact I just bought a new re-root tool off Ebay.

It took me about 6 times reading through the tutorial to re-hair with the tool I had to print it out and bring it to my custom area (the kitchen table). I just didn't get it at first, then it made total sense and then I was off! the only thing is it still takes long for me but I usually am using like 4-5 different colours of hair...and that can take a little while to set up and clean up as I switch clours.

I was shown how to use the rehair tool at the MLP Fair. I got a tool. The tool broke within 3 ponies. I put a new needle in...it broke within 3 ponies. I went back to the needle/thread method.
The rehair tool is much faster but to me, it is a major issue that it seems to break too easily. I also don't like that I feel the need to glue the inside of the mane down...just to be sure. With the needle and thread, I don't have to worry about the needle breaking, just the floss (and I have done 2 ponies with my current piece of floss...no breaking) and I don't have to glue.
I just think the rehair tool is not for me but it works great for a lot of people.

I use the needle and thread method but use a fishing line type thread. The tutorial I learned from used 2 pieces of thread and fills 2 plug holes at once. No knotting needed. Does anyone know whos tutorial that was, I couldn't find it. It does take a while but I like that I don't have to glue and I can brush the hair as I go.
ETA: I think it may have been Woosie's method but her site got shut down and a new one isn't up yet.

It was Woosie. She demonstrated it at the MLP Fair.
