I've been reading this and several other doll forums now (and frankly I'm far too intimidated to post this question elsewhere) and I keep seeing references to Pullip bodies melting. My BNP is perfect and I really, really want to keep that way but I also want to play with her. You know, dress her up, dress her down, sit with her on my lap, that kind of thing. But now I'm stressed about melting. Is my body heat likely to melt her? What does this "melting" involve? and I've heard too you should leave body parts touchign each other as they can melt each other? Can you guys please explain to me the best way to not kill my beauty?

Melting is something which I feel has been highly dramatised. Your body heat will NOT melt her.

Oh good, thanks you guys! that makes me feel better about having her on my lap. I pierced her ears and they turned out pretty well I think. Now i'm going to make jewelry for her all day tomorrow. I'll take pics and post 'em to show off.

The melting is chemically related, not heat related, so you shouldn't have to worry about heat. but I wouldn't suggest leaving your girl in a hot car.
the biggest melting issue I've seen is with the soft obitsu bodies melting where they come in contact with the dolls head. my souseiseki has a big of gooey residue around the rim of the hole in her head where the neck goes. and that's from her obitsu.
That can be avoided with teflon tape though

I always thought melting was something that happened in the factory... do I really need to be careful about my dolls touching each other for long periods of time? I was thinking about posing them on the mantle hugging in some cute outfits...

I think it's mainly a "plastic on plastic" thing for melting, isn't it?
Right about the time the melting problems came about, I took Lan Ake to California for a week with me. When she wasn't out and about posing for pictures with me, I kept her covered with a piece of white cloth, and kept her in a plastic newspaper bag. I was *really* frightened that the plastic bag would melt onto her face somehow, because I wasn't sure if it was just dolls melting onto each other, or different types of plastic could do the same thing, so I was super careful. Luckily, she came home in one piece, and without any melting problems. I probably wouldn't recommend traveling with a doll like that, but I had little choice at the time.

Gleeps! This is some of the most unstable plastic I've come across. Crazy. But they're so beautiful.....still, what is up with the chemical compounds that they will react to their own hands????!!!

BJD's are Resin while pullips are some other kind of plastic.
It will not affect bjds.
