So guys, what made you start collecting dolls?




It all started when my cousin Hanna got a American Girl Doll catalog. I had a knowledge of their existance but I didn't know that it would go this far in such monsterocity levels.

She got her first two bitty babies. Then something happened that with family issues. And so grandmother and I decided to collect after we found a american girl doll for $2.00 at salvation army with american girl clothes on. If it weren't actually for that doll, I don't think this collection would of happened.

American Girl did it for me, too! Previously to that, I actually hated dolls for the most part. I liked trucks and blocks and books and science lab and playing "secretary", not learning nurturing skills; as I had no interest in them. But AG made me want to have display dolls. I started getting the catalogues when I was like, 9 but never got an actual doll until I was 13. Display only dolls turned into "play" dolls as I grew older and realized I wasn't in danger of "growing up", I WAS grown up.

It was the pullips for me. I actually hated dolls, hated plushies, and I hated anything that was even remotely feminine up until I was 12.

I saw a pullip doll, Rovam, and I knew that I had to have this doll. So I saved up for a couple months selling things and such until I had enough money. I have never spent that much money on a single object in my entire life prior to that. I had her boxed up for about six months before I couldn't stand it, unboxed her and made her some clothes, which started my other two obessesion sewing and lolita.

Pullips were kind of like my gateway drugs into the realm of thing cute and girly; I now have new addictions daily.

When I was younger, I did like dolls, but not all that much. My Uncle used to send me a new porcelain doll every Christmas, but I never really liked them, because I couldn't play with them. I had a few baby dolls that I played with, but I was a bit of a tomboy otherwise.

Years passed where I couldn't care less about dolls.

Then, one day, I saw Dream of Doll's website. I thought it was pretty, but balked at the price.

A year or so later, I think, I went back to that website...and decided I had to have one of these dolls, because the customization was something that appealed SO MUCH to me as an artist. My best friend and I split a T.Too and T. Bee-A twinset.

I've been collecting for two years and I haven't looked back since. <3

I got my first Barbie (Dream Date Barbie, actually) for my 3rd birthday, and I've never looked back.

What got me started.. oh wow. Well when I was very little my Grandmother made beautiful porcelain dolls, seriously drool worthy and had them all in a cabinet. Whenever I would stay over while Grandma slept late I was allowed to take all those fantastic dolls out of the cabinet and play tea party. It's one of my favorite childhood memories. Since then I've always loved dolls. But when she started getting sick, even though the dolls and cabinet were willed to me, she started letting other people choose which dolls they wanted and taking them home with me. By the time I was told to come and get my dolls there were very few left and most of my favorites had been given away. I was so angry about the entire exchange the left over dolls sat in a cardbox in my basement for 2 years. I finally gave them away to a little girl last year. Eventually the cabinet will go too, either to another family member or someone else. I swore off dolls for awhile after that. But I've loved looking at the pictures of Pullips. Finally last October I bought Opium and Ella from Lily. Now the dollies are starting to take over.

Violetstarshine got me into doll collecting. I kept seeing her Pullip pictures and couldn't resist begging my husband to get me one.

... well i've had only a few barbies... i never liked baby dolls. they always gave me some weird sick feeling :/ i don't particularly like dolls with abnormally large heads either... (sorry pullip fans ^^) but i saw those huge (well u know... 70cm-ish) BJDs and =O. they're so preettyyyy.

Angelberries, relax, I was meaning "what" as more like an action. And you automatically have a who in order to do the action. So in these lines, it all works out. I knew what I was doing. Maybe it's a lazy Kansas language thing.

I hated dolls growing up, especially hated Barbie, she just wouldn't fit in the TMNT sewer playset so she made a lousy April. What got me into dolls was pullips, actually Requiem's "All My Pullips" is what really did ti for me, after reading her pic-fic, I had to have one! So I found Pullipstyle, and when I saw Papin and Craziia I fell in love, and Papin was my first. Now I have 8 more pullips. XD

I always wanted a Blythe since I saw one in 2001. It wasn't until 2006 that I got one, and not until 07/08 that I got all the rest. So what got me started collecting? I got a job, hehe. I'd been wanting a bunch of Blythes for years!
