Ok.. Well I guess I'm a bit redundant but ah.. Anyway I was wondering about trying to sculpt hair on this pony that needs to be patched up. I tried patching her up with super sculpty but when I was don baking her and test to see how the clay would stand up when I would rehair her.. The clay closer to the large hole I was trying to patch cracked o-o The other pony, who's patch up hole isn't as big, also started to crack.. but not right at the hole so I think I should be able to sand down that edge and she'll be fine.
Sad thing is, I don't know how well I can sculpt hair =/
I was also looking into the option of giving the one a full body repaint, then rehairing her, then sculpting the patch/baking it/then painting over the patch. The pony in question happens to be Majesty, who's horn was cut off.
Any tips or opinions will be helpful.

well you've got a perfect pony to start practicing with, right?
I say give it a go. Don't be afraid to try new things

If the Sculpey is cracking, maybe you have the heat a little too high on your oven...but like IP said, you have the perfect ponies to start practicing on lol

Honestly.. I'm not using an oven to bake the ponies/sculpty in.. I'm using a heat lamp of all things XD but hey it works :>
I'll be sure to practice on the one pony, the other I think I should be able to rehair her XD

I'm not sure a heat lamp is going to generate enough heat to bake the sculpey all the way through. I know that using something like a heat gun will cure the very top layer of sculpey, or something paper thin, but it just doesn't have enough heat to cure all the way through. If you don't cure your clay all the way through it will eventually crumble.
Don't be afraid to put your pony in the oven. We've all done it plenty of times around here and they've survived. There has been very few casualties, but if your oven is calibrated correctly and you follow the directions on the box of sculpey you shouldn't have any problems.

The only reason I've been using the heat lamp was due to what I've heard about baking clay in a normal oven over time. I wonder if I miss heard or something.

You must have misheard. Polymer clays are perfectly safe to bake in your oven if you follow the instructions on the package.
Natural clays or "dirt" clays cannot be baked in a normal oven because they don't get hot enough!

ah Ok, I'll probably go back to using the oven then. It'll be a lot faster that way and I can be rid of the super sculpty XD

I've baked three ponies at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes and had no ill effects with any of them. I'd say go for the oven! And just keep an eye on them and make sure you set the timer!
People say that you shouldn't use Sculpey or Fimo or whatever in the same oven you cook food in because of... well, honestly I don't know why. But I assure you I have been baking Sculpey in our oven for a decade and I'm still alive and kicking =D

I believe they said it will leave partials or something that will contaminate food *shrugs* I know when I bought the oven that is for sculpty they warned not to us it for normal cooking for that reason.. if I recall *ended up returning the oven anyway XD*

Meh, either way you're safe -_- I usually try to put Sculpey stuff on foil instead of straight on my trays but I'm not always a stickler about that.
It hasn't killed me yet, I'm thinking as long as I don't coat the oven in clay and continue baking it'll be fine -eye roll-
Now I wouldn't recommend baking food at the same time of course!
The ONLY bad clay experience I've had was with FIMO. I baked it too long and it uh... collapsed in on itself o_0 THAT produced fumes. They didn't smell very strong, there was just thick smoke/steam/whatever you want to call it. I kept the oven door open and opened every window in my house and turned all the ceiling fans on high. It eventually cleared out and I even baked dinner in that oven the same night. So take that paranoid people!

When I bake, I go 200F for 20 minutes or so...I've left a pony in the oven for longer than I care to admit in public, but at 200F, nothing happens lol.

Ah I see. Hmm strange how things like that come about. I will be covering a cookie sheet with foil, mom hasn't complain to me yet for not returning it.. and maybe put a glass bowl or something over it XD I don't know if that is a good idea though XDD

Why do you want to put a bowl over it? It'll be fine lol. Oh! If you have the self-cleaning type oven, I should think that running the cleaning cycle every once in a while would burn off any Sculpey residue, if that would put your mind more at ease about the safety of Sculpey. Of course, I can't be certain that it makes everything all perfect and stuff, but I've been cooking food and Sculpey in the same oven for quite some time, and nothing's happened to me lol.
