Making a pony look near minty and new is my favorite part about collecting. Please post some of your before and after pictures. I am suppose to be getting a batch of ponies next week so this will prevent me from buying more ponies to clean during my wait Feel free to describe what you did to make your pony look so nice.

Snowdrop was my first restore and she is still the rustiest pony I've ever had to clean. I used acetone to scrub away the rust inside her and worked and worked and worked on her hair (shampoo and condition, repeat).

Raincurl needed a new ear and I made her one out of Apoxie Sculpt. She also had holes in her feet that I fixed too. Then I rehaired her and Ringlet and gave them straw curls.

I'm bad at taking before pics I've done a bunch of ponies that I wish I had photos of prior to fixing them up.

I just love seeing the amazing work people do on restorations in threads like these! I've got a few major projects in progress but only some of my easier cases have been photodocumented.

All this was was hours of work brushing out the hair, then washing and leaving the conditioner in for a couple of days. What these pictures don't show is the dramatic difference in the texture of her hair. Before she was stiff and scratchy feeling, after she was so soft to play with.






Here we had an absolute mess I was ready to throw in the bait box, but I decided to try my hand at detinsiling on her. Much to my delight, all the scribbling on her came of with Magic Eraser and after the time-consuming process of detinsiling I found her hair was actually quite silky underneath it all. She is now proudly one of the gems of my G3 collection:






Next is this poor girl. I had been horrified by the mark on her leg which I thought was mold on the inside. I also knew by her tail rust her washer was causing problems in there. Once I (with difficulty) got her head off I discovered there was not a speck of mold. The grey discolouration on the outside was from the film of rust coating her inside and after scrubbing that out with antimicrobial dishsoap I found that the spot on her front leg was actually that her plastic was manufactured very thin in that area. The big ugly pattern on her leg was just rust showing through more there then where her plastic was normal thickness! I cleaned the rust stains where her washer had been on the inside and on her tail with whitening toothpaste. The stray marks on her outside were taken care of by Magic Eraser. I traded her away at this point and never actually got pictures of her totally back together again. The next step would have been sunfading to whiten her up again.






One restoration I really really wish I had taken before pictures of as she was another dramatic transformation. A friend of mine gave me her childhood ponies which had apparently been stored in a plastic grocery bag for years. When I got them out Lucky had major cancer and his plastisizor was leeching and spreading a sticky film all over the other ponies in that bag. Bangles' flocking soaked up a lot of it and matted into a disgusting brown stiff mess. I only identified her as Bangles because of her pose and blue hair, her body colour and symbol were coated. The kind of thing any sane person would have thrown out upon seeing. I washed her repeatedly with shampoo, toothpaste, Woolite, and three bleach baths and the result was better then I had hoped for!

BlackCurtains- Raincurl went through such a dramatic change! I think most people would have called that pony a lost cause but you made an amazing transformation. I really like the reforming of the ear. I would have never thought something like that was possible. Your pics were very nice by the way

BabyIceCrystal- Wow, detinsiling is another thing I never would have thought of for G3s. It made so much of a difference. No wonder why you are so proud of her. And Bangles looked amazing too. I can't believe the silky and bright hair actually survived the cleaning process.

Oh! I wish I would have taken before and after pics of the ponies I got yesterday, they went fron a janky lot from ebay into a collection of NM ponies, god bless the magic eraser and my irons 'nylon' setting

kaoskat WOW - What did you use to clean up BananaSurprise and SweetStuff? Is this sunfading? Those would've gone to my bait box asap.. that's just stunning results!!!

Noooooooooooooooooooo! *hides ponies* Those are childhood ponies!!!!! No bait box for them!!!!! Banana Surprise was sunfaded (I got her from Goodwill that way when I was a kid, even then I couldn't leave behind a pony). Sweet Stuff just has a paint patch.
