I've only recently started restoring my childhood ponies, after I found them in a rather sad state in our attic, but I'm very happy with the progress I'm making.
I don't have any before picture from my first 2 girls. I kind of didn't think about making any at the time. Any I have are a long way into the cleaning process so they don't mean much.
The first girl I worked on was Cotton Candy here. I thought she'd be a nice one to start with, seeing as she had no remaining cutie mark for me to ruin, and then I found the severe tail rust. >>
She since been cleaned inside and out, had her rusty Italian tail clamp and moldy string removed and replaced with tie wraps, had rust removed from her tail and had it defrizzed and styled along with her mane. I still want to see if I can give her back her cutie mark one day, but I'll need to sunfade the leftover homemade marks first, and cloudy Dutch winters don't lend themselves for that terribly well.
Lemon Drop here has been through the same process as Cotton Candy. I'm glad I took her head off to check the rattle I heard, since she turned out to have tail rust too. She now has a tie wrapped tail as well. I'm also happy the Vanish oxi action removed the smooze she was stuck with. ^^
I did take some before and after shots of my work on my Rainbow Curl girl. She kind of started out looking like a pompon with a pony attached. >>
She the first one I worked on who didn't turnout to have a rusted tail though.
Before:

Head re moved for cleaning purposes and tail in progress.

After body and hair cleaning and straightening:

With her curls added:

I still need to work on my ringlets I think, but I felt they weren't dreadful for my first try ever. >>
I still need to learn to be a tad more careful when I remove heads. None of them have suffered major damage luckily, but they all somehow ended up with just a tiny nick in their neck somewhere, luckily you only see it if you know it's there. I really do want to check the inside of just about every girl I own. They've all been in the same damp attic, so I fear more rust.
Also I just want to say thank you to everyone here who was kind enough to answer my questions. You've all been so great with helping me restore these three
