Chapter 1: leaving your heart behind.
Do you like Fantasy stories? The kind where anything can happen. I love letting my imagination run wild! If you get a few talking ponies, magical fairies and a mystical island far away you can make a GREAT story!
That reminds me of a story I wrote when I was younger, about your age actually, do you mind me boring you with it? Great well lets see…
Deep deep down in your imagination is an island called PonyIsland!
The local hospital was quite busy today, as Cotton a beautiful flutter pony with pink long hair with golden streaks that shine all the time had just received a package from the magic stalk! Her magical present, female twins, which she named friendship and Promise. Promise had Pink hair with silver streaks similar to her mothers and Friendship had Yellow hair also with silver streaks. They both had the same tattoo of three linked hearts Promise had a P on the middle heart and Friendship had an F. also under there left blue eye sat a small golden heart shaped birthmark.
Primrose the nurse had just taken promise to the nursery and left Cotton alone with Friendship.
Cotton was overjoyed with her two new foals and wished that puzzle was alive to see them. Puzzle had died in a cloud shake two months before they were born.
Cotton was in the garden and puzzle was in the stable, when the cloud shake happened the stable fell and he was trapped inside.
While Cotton daydreamed about her husband, she didn’t know that the same thing that killed her husband was about to strike again but this time it was even angrier!
Suddenly the stable walls started shaking and the straw covered flaws started to crack! There was a sudden rush of fear and panic on Cottons face as she remembered Promise!.
Cotton leaped over the stable gate with friendship clinging to her back. Then began to gallop through a sea of alarmed ponies. It was so noisy yet Cotton could still here the faint sound of her precious foals neigh!
Cotton then realized she would not get herself and friendship out of the hospital safely if she carried on galloping towards Promise! Tears flooded out of Cottons blue pearl eyes as she made the biggest, hardest and saddest decisions of her life!
Chapter 2: A Wish of Wonder
Cotton twisted round and clutched Friendship in her hooves as she started to flutter her wings and fly themselves to safety.
The nurse Primrose that was taking care of Promise managed to keep them both alive and safe. Primroses left back hoof was stuck under a stable door, they waited and waited for help to arrive. Finally after 2 days without food and water they were both rescued. Primrose took Promise to the Adoption Centre thinking her mother was no more.
The social worker slowly and calmly approached the silent infant foal and smiled softly. The gentle mare guided the innocent pair towards an empty tranquil room and did not neigh a word. She sat them down on a bail of straw and they began discussing Promise. Primrose said goodbye and was off, a quick look of sadness fell on Promises face and she walked away with Bluebell the social worker. Promise was sent to a foster home after spending 1 week in the Adoption Centre. Her new and temporary mother wasn’t exactly the nicest pony. Her name was Stella but made Promise call her Lady Ella Mam. Bearing in mind the poor foal hadn’t even learnt to neigh yet let alone say that mouthful!
Stella changed Promises nappy once each day, never brushed her Maine or tail and gave her 2 tiny bowls of hay a day.
News soon spread that the king and queen were looking to adopt after the recent death of their own daughter who died in the recent event of the cloud shaker.
After visiting the Adoption Centre the king and queen were told to see Promise.
Promise was playing with a pile of wooden bricks in the lounge when suddenly there was a knock. She lifted her face and a small smile lightened up her face. The social worker had phoned to neigh that they would arrive shortly. Promise new that this could be her chance to escape from Stella.
Just remember the three c’s, cute, cuddly and hmm what was the last one? Oh well there here, Quick I’ll do the old, aren’t I cute baby face. Promise said to herself.
Stella showed the royal Ponies into the lounge where Promise stood with puppy eyes so blue and gorgeous. That the queen fell in love with her straight away and the Skippy little frolic she did tipped it off.
“Oh chewenslow isn’t she just the cutest little deer?” Said the queen fooling for Promises little trick.
“Violet, first of all she is not a deer she is a Foal and second you cant just fool for the first foal you see that does a cute trot and frolic!” replied the king.
“Well it worked okay for you, didn’t it?” answered the queen. “Remember darling the first time we met? You were standing by the stairway at the ball. And I was playing hard to get! You trotted over with one thing on your mind, getting to be king and queen of the pony sweethearts contest. I kept refusing to even think of entering that silly contest. But you did a frolic and that was that, turned out it was actually a stallio and mareoet audition” The queen was interrupted by a loud snort coming from Stella who carried on snoring.
“My story wasn’t that boring was it?” asked the queen.
There was no doubt about it Promise was soon to be known as Princess of Pony Island!
Chapter 3: All I Want!
Promise was finally removed from Stella and moved from Nordic Island to PonyIsland. When the Cloud Sake had passed all PonyIsland was split into three new Islands:
· PonyIsland = The Main upper crust City/ countryside Island where the famous Ponies Live!
· Nordic Island = Where Stella lives and where Promises birth Mother and Friendship live! It is home to the middle class ponies.
· Hades= A dark and scary island, where all the evil and dangerous ponies live! 9this Island comes into the story later).
She was always making the royal guards laugh and winning at PonyCards! Soon Promise grew into a beautiful young mare aged 18. The rich life never changed Promises personality or dreams: she had a long pink Mane and tail sometimes straight and sometimes wavy with silver steaks that had not faded but grown stronger. The heart shaped birthmark had now grown a unique power that only she and her sister Friendship had. It would change colour to suit whatever mood the twins were in e.g. if Promise were angry it would go a fiery hot red, if she were in love it would turn pink and if she were scared it would turn silver etc.
On this particular day on PonyIsland Promise was gazing out over the whole Kingdom from her outside balcony. The sky was a clear baby blue and not a cloud in sight. She looked down to the sea where she noticed a family of sea ponies playing in the water. A young pair of unicorn foals was playing with a ball on the sand, when suddenly a cooling breeze blew it onto the glistening water. The youngest foal cried and cried until a shell pony went and fetched it.
Promise loved watching things from her bedroom and always dreamt that some day she would fly around the whole kingdom, and people would look up and say “ there goes Promise the champion flier!”
Promise had never used her beautiful sparkling wings because there was never a need too, she had never even flown wing or set hoof out of the palace clouds!
“If you spent as much time finding a Stallion as you do daydreaming you would have been married months ago!” joked the queen, interrupting Promises dream.
“Mother what is the point in me having wings if I never have the chance to use them?” Promise replied changing the subject.
“Promise you don’t need to use them, you have everything you could want or need here.”
“But mother I don’t have everything.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t have friends, I don’t have freedom and I don’t have a normal life”.
“But promise you’re a princess, you’re what every mare dreams of being”.
“Mother just once I want to fly around he kingdom, meet new people far away and ones that don’t sit at the hay stack and clip there hooves or shine their shoes! I’ve never even set foot out of the castle clouds!
“Promise you know you mustn’t go outside the palace you could be seen by or be captured or injured by one of those poor excuses for ponies over on Hades Island.
If your father was alive to hear you talking like this again he would…”
“He would what? Ground me oh no he couldn’t do that because I have nowhere to go anyway. What about make me do chores for a year oh no that wouldn’t work either because then the servants would be out of a job! You know when father alive at least he did a better job of raising me then your doing!” For the first time in her life promise had been angry and cross! Her heart-shaped birthmark was glowing a bright fiery red, which was also a first!
Promise looked n her mothers eyes and saw tears welling up inside.
Suddenly Violet cantered out into the stone hallway into her own stable where she wept.
Promise followed and her birthmark turned turquoise as she held her head low with her ears laid flat while she slowly walked into her mothers stable.
“Mother?” Promise said quietly, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean anything I said”. She murmured putting her hoof on her mothers back.
Its just sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here in this world, and part of me belongs somewhere else where there’s adventure and love and friendship.”
Violet pricked up her ears and lifted her head then sniffing walked over and in her hooves took down from her fireplace a small wooden jewellery box. It was rectangular shapes with a heart pattern round the edges and in-between the lid and the base was a small keyhole.
“What’s that?” questioned Promise with her head tilted to the left.
“My mother gave it to me when I was your age and it had many secrets inside when I opened it but most of the secrets I didn’t understand until I was ready” Replied Violet.
“Ready for what? How does it open? What secrets?” Rushed Promise.
“ You’ll know when your ready. Do you remember that heart shaped necklace I gave to you when you were 5? Asked the queen.
“ Yes I keep it under my Pillow every night, why? Promise answered.
“That is the key that will open this treasure chest. Go on take it, its yours now.” Her mother said handing Promise the box.
Promise carefully received the jewellery box and slowly walked out into her bedroom to fetch the necklace and then trotted to the gardens with a puzzled look on her face. What she did not know was that this ‘box’ was going to change her life forever…
Chapter 4: A secret unleashed.
As Promise sat over the water fountain edge the she took of the necklace, which she had tied round her neck and placed the box on the side.
As she started to slide the necklace into the hole the box started glowing. Suddenly it floated in the air in front of promise and then slowly opened as a multicoloured glow full of sparkling lights shimmered beautifully. Promises eyes widened and her mouth opened as she witnessed this dazzling moment.
Suddenly the glow dimmed and the box slowly began to make its way back into promises hooves. Then as promise looked inside the box she noticed many photos, letters and posters. Wondering what they were she gently removed a letter from the pile and unfolded it.
It was all crinkled and hard to make out what the words were. But promise gradually got through the whole letter and sat for a moment in silence. The letter was saying about the adoption and everything promise lived was a lie.
After recovering from the shock and a few tears promise sniffed and began to empty the box: viewing every picture. One was of her mother cotton but none of friendship so Promise did not actually know she had a sister. Next Promise picked out a poster saying missing ponies: it said on the headline about the cloud shake and all the adverts for missing ponies. Tears came streaming out of Promises eyes as she then saw the next piece of paper which recounted the day of the cloud shake saying all the ponies that had passed away.
It started to rain and blurred the writing and photos: Promise sat on the fountain edge and wept, her mane becoming soaked and her tail turned curly and knotted. She slowly got to her feet and took a deep breath as she headed for the warmth of the palace.
The guards ran to Promise as they saw her dripping wet and called for the servants to fetch some towels. Promise took no notice of their constant faffing and carried on trotting up to her stable ignoring what was going on: it was almost as if she were memorised.
Suddenly Promise fell to the floor with a thud and just saw blurry figures of the guards and servants calling he name…
Chapter 5: It came to me In a Dream
As Promise slept there was a dream that entered her slumber: it started out with just her playing by the water fountain as a foal. Suddenly another foal joined her that looked strangely like her but with a yellow mane. Their tattoos were even the same and they both had the exact same birthmark!
They both started to play together when a voice came calling Friendship… then again Friendship? Promise! Where are you? The two little foals sat still and looked around. Then the second foal stood up and started walking away, looking for something. Promise to got up, and questioned, “ Where are you going? Don’t you want to play? What are you looking for?”
The stranger replied “Our mother of course didn’t you hear her calling?”
“but that wasn’t my mother”
“Why are you being silly again? Come on lets go Promise”.
“How do you know my name?” replied Promise, but the foal had disappeared.
Then Promise heard a voice again this time it was not in the dream nor was it very magical or exiting. It was her mother trying to wake her up and also panicking for nothing.
“oh Promise thank goodness your all right I was so worried about you” shrieked the queen, hugging Promise to death.
Mother? I had the strangest dream!” she sa up and looked around she was lying on the floor of the hallway. “ what happened why am I on the floor? And soaking wet?” questioned
Promise.
“Your on the floor Promise because you fainted for a few seconds. And you’re wet because you were out in the rain for some strange reason”
“mother what was in that box? Is it true? Why didn’t you show me it before? Who am I? And who are you?” promise said remembering everything.
“Promise I gave it to you as I thought you were ready and could handle it. Can you?”
“Mother…” Promise galloped off leaving her mother with an unfinished sentence.
“Promise” cried violet.
Promise had gone to her stable where she laid on the floor and cried. Blue crystal tears fell down her cheek and across the birthmark, which had changed to an ice blue.
Thoughts ran through her mind so quickly it was like someone had pressed the rewind and fast forward button at the same time.
Promise heard a small whisper in her ear and lifted her head slowly. In front of her she saw a very small figure but there were so many tears filling her eyes it was all blurry and unclear. Promise blinked a few times and cleared her eyesight then saw a beautiful glowing fairy!
Chapter 6: What are you?
She had long blonde hair and a beautiful woven silk dress covered in tiny diamonds and wore a pair of white gloves on her miniature hands.
On her head sat a very small golden tiara covered in white crystals maybe even diamonds.
Neither creature spoke but starred into each other’s shinning eyes.
Promise then broke the silence saying, “Who are you? What are you? Why are you here? Where are you from…?” Promise rushed through her unfinished sentence without taking a breath and was interrupted by the fairy who said, “Calm down Promise” She said softly “I am the fairy of your dreams, and I have come to help you find yourself as it appears you have forgotten who you are!”
“What do you mean? I know who I am I’m promise princess of PonyIsland.”
Ah yes but that is your name, not who you are
