I just got a lot of ponies in from this person... and they are in horrid condition...

No tails, grungy, mad haircuts... I could not tell in the original photo on the auction and I paid a pretty penny for this lot of what is effectively BAIT.

They have perfect feedback score... should I just suck it up as having been careless in what the photo showed? Or should I contact them for some sort of return?

They say no returns, no refunds, no exchanges etc.

Write it off and move on? Or try to figure out *SOME* way of fixing this?

Well, it seems like they are really pushing the NO REFUNDS and *AS IS* and to ask questions before bidding because again, NO REFUNDS!!!! It's all over that auction! In this case, I'm not sure there is anything you an do. (I'll take that tailless Ringlet off your hands - if I am in fact, looking at the right auction!)

Can I post the link to the closed auction? I don't want to push any rules after my mimic thread lol...

But yes, I believe that is the auction. I honestly didn't even think about them being so baity before I bid... Yeah I knew they weren't minty, but I will have to get some clear pictures of what showed up here. It is somewhat obvious looking back at the pictures but I also know what I'm looking for now.

I didn't even think to ask about their condition, because heck, there were pictures... I'm so new to eBay and I am failing so hard at it! I just need to stick to Craigslist lol

And if you want to pm me with the offer for ringlets, she's all yours.

If the auction did not describe those flaws, and you can't see them in the picture, you may still be able to ask for a refund since they are 'not as described.' Ebay allows this even if the person says no refunds (the no refunds thing is more for if you just decide you don't want an item.) Even with stating 'as is' if they don't accurately describe or picture the condition, they can't really use that against you. Tho it sounds like this person may refuse to do it themselves, and you may have to file for it through ebay. Keep in mind that you may still have to pay for both original and return shipping.

Do you have a link to the auction?

Original auction

I mean again, looking back at the pictures, now that I know what shape they are in, they jump out as OMG NO TAILS but... They didn't upon original viewing. I don't know if I have enough of a case that the flaws weren't clear enough, or if I was just careless and have to eat it this time.

I don't think the price was horrible. Especially considering the shipping was free. The pics are a little small and hard to see, so I can't say how bad they look in person. If they're just grungy, you may be able to take a magic eraser to them and clean them up fine. Personally I don't care about haircuts because I just rehair them, but I know some people don't like them. I can't see any in the pic with obvious haircuts, but those can be hidden.

The one thing I noticed reading the info is they say 'we try to describe the items as best as possible' but there's no descriptions at all of the ponies, just that they are 'used'

EDIT: gotta say that Sprinkles looks so nice, it took me 3 tries to find one with a matching head and body, and she's still kinda bleh, has other problems lol.

Funny enough, I have a wonderful NM Sprinkles... the one in this lot is so squishy... haven't tried to see if she stands on her own yet :-/

its a very loose description as there isnt really a description at all! and you would certainly have a case if the ponies had been described as being in good condition but unfortunately it is pretty much a sold as seen auction...

you cannot tell what you are getting just from a picture...you need to ask questions...ask for more pictures, ask the seller to be specific about things...i ll admit that because different collectors have different issues with different things, i sometimes ask about things that other people wouldnt have a problem with and likewise i wont be bothered by things that other people have problems with...if you dont ask for pictures or more information you are simply taking a risk on what you are getting

i am not saying its right that the seller listed these ponies in such a way - they should have described them in bait condition but if they are not pony collectors then they may not know that people would consider the items as baity...in this case i think you may have to accept that its a risk that didnt pay off

dont worry about being new to ebay no matter how experienced we all get caught out sometimes!

Am I the only person who clicks on all the pics in an auction anymore? You can clearly see there are at least 2 missing tails and several haircuts in the seller's pictures. They are also clearly dirty in the pictures. I'm not sure how you can say they're not what you expected to get based on the pictures I can see.

If something is grossly misrepresented, ebay forces a return despite "No Returns" if seller/buyer cannot find an agreement.

If it says As/Is... well... Smile next time you'll know ask to tons of questions beforehand, or ask for additional pictures... I suppose. That's always a bummer.

But I don't think that's a terrible price for what you received. and it does request that you ask questions beforehand esp considering there is free shipping, and they do state they are unsure about conditions.

I hate to say it but I think the pictures are pretty clear. There are even a couple of closer-up shots where you can see the haircuts and such.

I know it stinks when you think you're getting a great lot and then it winds up being in poorer condition than expected, but that's why you should always look closely at the pictures and ask questions if you aren't sure about something.

I buy a lot of eBay lots so I've gotten to the point now where I just kind of expect that they'll be dirty and flawed... that way I'm not as disappointed when I open up that box! Smile Believe me, that's actually pretty normal for pony lots to arrive like that. Be prepared to do some scrubbing!

Welp, that's why I asked here before saying anything to her or leaving feedback. I am *brand new* to the whole ebay thing, especially lot buying. I got super lucky with the first few I got off craigslist etc. with their being totally awesome. I also use an iPad most of the times, and what looks like a clear picture on a regular screen doesnt always have the same resolution, and it doesn't quite look the same...

I will clean them up, see where to go from there and enjoy the G3s that are in good shape. Maybe this is what I needed to learn how to rehair!! I'll be looking over in the customs board for some tips and tutorials, and maybe it will have been a good investment after all Smile

Thanks everyone for the advice.. I will be sure to look closer next time... on an actual screen and not the iPad lol...

(Also I won't start placing bids at 3am when *EVERYTHING* looks shiny and perfect!)

There is no such thing as no refunds with ebay. You can still open a SNAd case with ebay if the seller refunds you, however I don't think the sell should have to.

Well.. like the other said, its not really a bad price considering the number of ponies and the free shipping Wink of course it would have been better if the seller had attempted some sort of description or at least mentioned the fact that some had no tails awake
You can still open "item not as described" cases on sellers who state no refunds but I think that its probably best to just accept it this time TBH - the seller does say to ask questions first, and they have shown 3 pics of the ponies in the auction. Buying job lots from non-collectors on ebay can be hit n miss - and most lots will be somewhat dirty . It's always best to ask plenty questions to make sure of what you'll be getting if you plan on spending a decent amount of monies in future, so that you dont get any unpleasant surprises Smile
You could still politely message the seller , mention the missing tails, and see what they say though relaxed

Well...most sellers should state that there are obvious tails missing. Some don't know how long the hair should be so cuts often go un-noted, but if there's a hole in the pony where the tail's supposed to go, I think the seller has the obligation to note it. Sadly that's not always the case, especially if it's a "sold as is" auction, and they state to see the picture. =/

You could politely ask the seller for a partial refund, and explain the situation. There's a chance they might offer a refund - but really the free shipping kind of kicks it up a bit. I don't know how willing they would be to work with you. It never hurts to ask though! Even though I often say "no returns" in my auctions, it doesn't mean that I'm unwilling to work with the buyer.

Hug Best of luck sorting it out. Keep us posted!
