They have 100% feedback in the 2000 range and some lovely looking ponies- 3 needed for my partner in the holiday swap!

Quote::
Yesterday evening I was notified by a buyer who tried to pay through Paypal that Paypal has "limited" my account because I've refused to give them my social security number. I spoke with them last night and they are going to keep my account "limited" (read "closed") until January 1 because I am "at risk" of having over $20,000 in transactions this year, in which case they will need my social security number to relay information to the IRS. I very much resent Paypal's arbitrary decision to limit my account because I'm at $19,000 and "approaching" the $20,000 limit. I told them I would give them my social security number if I exceeded $20,000, but they wouldn't accept that.

I spoke with them less than two weeks ago and they did not tell me that my account was to be effectively closed once I exceeded $19,000 or I would have noted it in the listing of the item you purchased last night. Ever since ebay required sellers to offer Paypal if they didn't have credit card capabilities I have not been a fan of Paypal because their overpriced "service" cost me 6% of my profits last year and who can afford to give away 6% in this economy? Certainly, I understand that this significantly enhances ebay's bottom line since they own Paypal. I now find myself apologizing to you for this unexpected inconvenience due to their inflexibility.

Consequently, if you still want the merchandise, you'll need to send a check or money order. Sorry. But blame Paypal for this one.
Regards,

I can see a few other posts regarding Paypal, so it seems legit?

I have had all kinds of trouble with PayPal/ eBay. They froze my account for like months when I got married and tried to change my name in there. I sent them three copies of my new info and marriage license and they never did change it. I finally got them to channel my funds to the same bank account under my old name. It was a nightmare.

Still it is important you safeguard yourself. The transaction should be changed to show that's the payment you are sending and you should get insurance/signature confirmation so you can prevent loss and prove the funds arrived.

I don't know... Confused Sounds legit though. I've been having a bunch of problems with paypal and ebay as well. I'm amazed at the number of hidden fees that keep popping up around every corner. It seems like something paypal would do though.

Anyway, how much is the total you're wanting to send her? Is it a large, risky amount? I would probably go ahead with the purchase if I needed the ponies, but do it through ebay, just not paypal. That way you can file for unsent items in case something goes wrong.

This is legit. I'm willing to bet on it.

If you are uncomfortable back out of the transaction. If it was me, I would send a money order or personal check.

Yeah it sounds reasonable, but go with your feelings, like FPM said.

Paypal froze my account a while ago cause I received over $1500 almost or something that year and they had to do a check up at my info or something..ugh glad it's working again now! Smile

It sounds legit.
Here is a link to Paypal about what she is talking about:
Paypal and the IRS

The way I see it is that by not providing her SS# Paypal can not send the IRS a 1099 about her earnings from ebay. Which she should be reporting anyways. But that's besides the point.

I would do whatever you feel comfortable with. If she has good feedback I doubt she would be willing to risk losing it over scamming someone. Just my thoughts?

I was going to do it. It is 15 ponies (including 4 petites) & 1 Buddy L fakie. I asked about accessories, never got an answer- hope there will be some accessories...

Anyway it is only $33 including shipping. It is a childhood collection, original owner looks to be in awesome shape too!

Thanks for the link! I need to see how many payments I've received. I do NOT sell for profit ( some I gain, some I lose- it is all a wash). I consider it a hobby I ALWAYS take a loss. Making up a schedule C would suck... now I have to look into it. Thank God I save ALL my shipping slips and participate in tons of swaps! My expenses will ALWAYS out weigh my profits!

... reviewed it I am SAFE!

Will I be affected by the 2011 tax changes if I only meet one of the thresholds?

No. A seller has to exceed both thresholds ($20,000 in gross payment volume and 200 payments) in 2011 to be affected by the new requirements.

Wow, that sucks. Never heard of this.

Thank god it's both thresholds, as 200 transactions is easy to pass!

Actually, I don't even know if they have my social security number?

Yeah, my parents are gonig to have to pay taxes on their online business for the first time since they atarted doing it. On the one hand, I can understand why the IRS wants to tax it and it was only a matter of time, but it does such for people trying to make a living.

Does anyone here know how to check how much money you have received on paypal in the past year?

I really need to check the total. All I can find is a way to see all your transaction but not actually the total. Does anyone know? There must be a way to have it tell you have much money has been put in since January 2011?

Yep I would say its legit too (thanks for the helpful link, Ponylady Smile ) awake
I had a similar experience to CuteyBina - a couple of years ago paypal did something like that to my hubbys paypal account cos we had sold a lot of stuff on ebay (i forget the value but it was kinda high) and they wanted to do some sort of checks before we could continue Roll Eyes

RPB I'm not sure if you can check the total Blush I would have thought so. I'll ask my hubby and see if he knows

Oh no Emery!

Do you have any idea at all what you are at? Is $20,000 possible for you since January?

I still can't figure out how to check this record thing. So dumb. I can only find it by month :-/
