Ok, so i saw this auction on ebay today:
Vintage G1 My Little Pony Gusty Rare Blue Leaf Symbol Variant

Thing is, im sure of heard of a blue-symboled Gusty, but not 100% sure whether im fabricating that knowledge or not, what do people know, if anything, about her?

Secondly, the seller has only 6 feedbacks, mostly (if not entirely) from buying feedback too. Do i trust this? Im not sure if I want to. Anyone else heard of this seller?

Thanks x

Never heard of her. Could be just that the symbols faded or she is a custom? I would wait and see what other members say as I have not heard of that Gusty.

Gusty with blue leaves has come up in a few conversations here in the past and I think the general consensus was that they're just faded UK Gustys, though some believe her to be a possible variant. I don't believe it's been verified either way.

I personally lean more towards the leaves just being faded. Pink/red pigments on G1 pony symbols have a strong tendency to fade if left in the right conditions. The colors fading evenly isn't that uncommon either, which is why you may see ponies like Baby Crumpet with blue kettles rather than purple, Applejack with golden apples where they should be red (I guess they're a deep orange), or Posey with white tulips instead of pink.

I don't necessarily think the seller is out to intentionally mislead anyone mind you, they may just be part of the crowd that believes her to be a true variant.

Like many others I dont believe she is an actual variant....the "red" in that magenta colour seems to fade or leech quicker than the blue - as Mandy says Baby Crumpet is another perfect example of this.

I doubt the seller is intentionally misleading but unless you believe blue symbol Gusty is the real thing, I would just look for a Gusty whose symbols hadnt faded.

I thought we were allowed to post links to warn others just like she did though?

No posting links to live auctions
This is in effect as a common courtesy. The only exceptions are if the auctions are yours (advertise to your heart's content) and if you are posting the auction link in order to warn others of potential scams or misrepresented items. ("Misrepresented" means the item is not what the seller claims it to be, not that you don't feel it is worth what the seller is asking.) Instead you may post a picture from the auction or a description.

She looks weird to me. I mean, for all I know she could be a variant but doesn't her leaves look..."unfinished"?

It just seems like an odd color to choose to paint the symbol. I would vote for faded as well!

If the OP had first hand knowledge of the pony being altered the link would be perfectly acceptable but this is not the case. This is pure speculation and while the discussion is welcome a live auction link is not warranted.

Whoops, sorry guys! Im so used to people putting links to ebay that i just forgot about the clarification of what's allowed.

Thanks for the info guys. I remember people having this discussion before. Second question then is,

Do you buy from a seller who has so little relevant feedback? (Purely speculation purposes.)

I'm with the others who believe she is simply faded. The red pigments do tend to fade or bleed more readily, and purple paint is often created by blending blue and red pigments together.

As for buying from someone with little feedback--it's always a bit risky since people don't always behave as reliably when they are on the selling end. On the other hand, everyone has to start somewhere as a seller. Hypothetically speaking, you have to determine if the risk/hassle is worth it given the transaction value. Ebay and paypal do protect buyers pretty well if an item isn't received provided you file by their deadlines.

I would never say no to buying from someone with low feedback - what puts me off more is if it looks as if they have never sold or bought ponies before because then I know they are not a collector and I know they may not expect the same standards as I would.

There are plenty of collectors who only rarely use ebay so maybe your seller is one of those and thats why the feedback score is so low. You could always ask them if they have feedback on another forum/site which you could look at.

At the end of the day its a balance...everyone has to start somewhere...ask for more pics and as much description as possible I say if you are ever even a little worried!

Personally I think that this pony is faded - for the same reasons already mentioned here Wink The seller probably is not out to intentionally mislead people - she may really believe it is a variant- but the price does seem high for something that is 'possibly' not a true variant, just a symbol fade. Its up to you if you think the pony is worth it of course awake The feedback thing.. well .. everyone has to start somewhere, she doesnt have bad feedbacks so far, and there is a decent amount of buyer protection on ebay, so I wouldnt be too worried about that. If you want to know a bit more about the condition of the pony first , ask the seller some more specific questions relaxed

If they are a new collector, or a non-collector I'm guessing they simply don't know. Back in the day you would see a lot of "Posey with WHITE hair variant!" type listings, which we all know is due to the hair fading.

The red faded out of the symbol is all. not a variant. Smile (As was mentioned, happens a lot to baby crumpet too, and other ponies with lavender/purple paint.)

Throwing my two cents in here: I agree with everyone else that it's a good possibility that she's a faded original, but I have to always mention whenever a discussion like this comes up, that it all comes down to two things; How much you like/want the pony and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Personally knowing full well that Yellow-apple AJ could very easily be a faded Orange-appled AJ I scoured the Pony World to find her at a decent price because I liked her yellow apples. I found a Yellow AJ at a good price and now I'm happy whether she's a variant or not!

Lastly, to address your question about feedback, Paypal has gotten to be so Buyer sided that I am very comfortable placing bids on items with sellers that I once would have thought better of bidding with. I also pay attention to how long the seller has been on eBay if they have low numbers; The longer they've been a a member, the better I feel about bidding. Wink
