I knit - but not in the traditional way, though I used to do that, too. Now I knit using a loom (Nifty Knitter). I have looms in a bunch of sizes and shapes. I can do scarves (of course lol), blankets/afghans, beanies, socks, shawls and wraps (I want to make a serape type wrap soon just for fun). I don't do it all that often, but I have a few friends who love my scarves and matching hats that I make each winter, so a few people always know what they're getting for Christmas. This year I'm making several friends Harry Potter scarves.

PlasticPonyPrincess, I've looked at looms a few times, it looks much faster but still fun!

I'd also love to learn how to sew, I've tried a few times but my sewing machine always outwits me!

I have forayed into sewing several times, but I can't stand having to change bobbins and mess with the machine, so I'm with you there!

However, the looms are fantastic, and I highly recommend them. I'm ambidextrous and so my dominant hand changes back and forth when I'm knitting depending on which hand starts to get tired (in fact, the only thing I'm not able to do equally with both hands is write - but that' conditioned from school - when I was a kid, they made you pick a hand and stick with, so my left-handed writing is a bit iffy). Anyway, I had a hard time keeping my knitting straight and even using needles, so the looms fixed that and yes, they are a lot faster. I can knock out a beanie, complete with pom-pom at the top in about 45 minutes, and I can make a 4' scarf in about 90 minutes (a bit longer if I do alternating colors), and my work is always neat and even.

I especially like the looms for bigger projects, like wraps/shawls and blankets, because it's so much easier to switch to a new ball of yarn!

I knit, learned off my mum. Currently I'm teaching a couple of my friends to knit for a show we're doing because their character knits all the time.
I'm trying to work out what to knit next atm...

PlasticPonyPrincess, I'm going to have to seriously look into looms after Christmas, I'm working on my 2nd baby blanket and it's taking FOREVER! I have fairly even stitches (knitting calms me but I think all my tension goes into the stitches!) but I'm super envious at the timing with looms now that I know they really are that quick! Can you do patterns an everything with looms? Or just stripes or plain?

I crochet mostly but I can knit if I look up the instructions lol. I don't have it memorized yet. Crochet I love though! Been doing it off and on for a few years.

The only time I tried knitting was to make my husband a set with a scarf, hat and gloves for Christmas back when we were still dating Flirty Pony It turned out really well in the end but my mom was too hardcore a teacher and always made me redo the work if it wasn't good enough in her eyes Scared I still remember her un-knitting at least 2-3 weeks of work once Scared I haven't knitted since but maybe I should try again sometime, preferably with a new teacher Silly
