I think this is terrible. Rather than using some other service because we'll have to wait another day or two to get our ponies in the mail (big deal!), I think we should continue giving our business to the USPS. They need it. Makes me feel bad that I buy my shipping supplies from Wal Mart. If anyone DOESN'T need business, it's them...but gahhh they're so cheap...
Does anyone know if USPS plans to raise postage prices because of this? |
I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible and would never pay even their low costs for shipping supplies. It eats away at profits.
If you ship regularly and want to find some cheaper options for shipping supplies here is some advice:
1. Boxes & Bubble wrap - Go to recycling bins or ask businesses if you can schedule a pick-up to take the boxes they throw out. Also, food & pop boxes are EXCELLENT for ponies and some other similar sized things. *Tip - Don't use food boxes that had direct contact with food. If box was in the freezer or fridge, make sure they are fully dried before using them.*
2. Manilla Envelopes - Garage sales, Estate Sales & Good Will. Usually you'll find the best deal at the first two. If you get them for less than 10 cents each that's a good deal so do the math before buying.
3. Packing Tape - I buy in bulk so I unless you ship 20 packages a week it might not be worth it. But even if you don't, you could always plan to buy 40 rolls from someone online and then be set for years to come.
For options 1 & 2 you are helping the environment big time.
