Posted this in another thread, but thought I'd post here too so I can show off my little haul!
Picked up a bag of ponies, sight-unseen, from a local selling group a few weeks ago. Bit of a mixed bag as you'll see. Pretty much every pony was grotty! The only one that didn't need intensive cleaning was the Baby Celebrations one!
I'll start with the Hasbro Ponies and post the fakies after.
Cleaned Ponies:
All of the above had to have intensive treatment; boiling with Oxy powder! Worked a lot better than standing and trying to squeeze all those pony blackheads out with hot water and my nails! I'd recommend that method to anyone, just make sure you keep an eye on the water level or else you might end up with a Phantom Pony!
Poesy also had a hell of a lot of rust inside her whole body, it was gruesome! Cleaned her out as best I could and cleaned the rust from the tail. She's got a stain on her other side that I can't get off though. But she looks OK from the side shown above!
This one's in mid restoration, hence the filler on the front legs. I'll do my best, but I fear she's beyond repair. She might end up being painted white, blue and pink and being resexed and renamed Swift Wind!
Update: Bought some spot cream last week and am trying that method to remove the bad marks that didn't come out with intensive Oxy treatment. Will update if I manage to restore this one or not.
Baby was pretty clean, so he didn't really need any cleaning. I just gave him a bath and a hair wash. Can't get his mane to stay down though, even with dampening down and holding with a hair band.
These were also nice and clean, for the most part. I've since noticed that Sister pony (name escapes me) has some light tail rust. I'll add that to my list of things to do! Otherwise, she's quite clean.
This one I picked up in a charity shop some months ago. I have no idea where she came from but she's blue one side and grey the other and has a magnet on one hoof. Need to clean this one up along with a G3 Rainbow Dash I discovered languishing at the bottom of a 49p bin in the YMCA the other day!
And these are the fakies:
I was going to shift all the fakies as they're not really my thing, but I was having a chat with a couple of the guys on my (much more blokey!) forum and we've hit on a rather interesting idea: Battle Pony and Panth-Ony! for the uninitiated, that's Battle Cat and Panthor from Masters of the Universe! I've seen people do Bat-Pony and the like so I think it'd be fun! My other great loves are Ghostbusters and Green Lantern so I have a sneaking suspicion that most of the other fakies I have will receive similar treatment to these two!
And then there's this weird dragon-type thing!
Have no idea what this is from. It's got Zapf (SP? Don't have the thing in front of me to check!) Creations written on it, but I've Googled and I can't find it anywhere. I'm going to remove the hair and tweak it a bit as I think it would make a nice little dragon if repainted.
Haven't cleaned any of those up as yet, so sorry for their tattyness.
So that's my little haul (except for the blue/grey one). They were all filthy but I think they've all cleaned up rather well, bar Sprinkles. She's missing a lot of hair (compounded by myself, I have to admit; a tuft came out during the deep cleaning process), she has bite marks on her front legs, which I've filled with modelling putty and she's got ground-in dirt on her face. She's got Biro all over her too, so I fear the worst.
Will update with cleaned Rainbow Dash and that mystery one with the magnetic hoof when I've done them.
