Well, his head's off! And his tail is out, and slightly in rough shape. The metal bit that held it together has snapped in half and the washer was loose as well. I'll have to get the glue out then try to realign it and use the zip tie method to put it back.
As per the mane, I've got no idea! It looks original to me, but honestly I don't really know what I'm looking for. And it's so hard to get a picture of the inside of his head so... |
i had a thought! perhaps his tail popped out during play and dad took the head off to get the tail back in? i always remember the tail can out of a toy dog the girl next dorr had, she was very upset and her dad fixed it back in using a bolt instead of a washer i have opened up with ponies and found wool, string, wire and all sorts used as washers
i can see why you feel fishy about a possible rehair with the head been off and glued back on and the stripe been different, but his hoof mark is the real thing
do you have another normal pony with a loose head you can pop off and take a peek inside? that way you will have something to compair with. Roogna mentioned the factory weave, which does look like a sort of braid
what colour is the green stripe? it looks a similar shade to gusty?

That's a good idea about comparing.
Even if he has been rehaired (and it is an if at this point, as we just don't know!), there's no doubting he is a Thai boy

Thank you guys! I've got the theory that it's original as well. It's just different from the others. Since he's from a childhood collection, I don't know when he would have been rehaired. She didn't remember when/where he was acquired, but she lives in England so...?
Oh if we could hear the stories some of these nirvanas carry! *dreams*
Anyway, he's being thoroughly cleaned up at the moment. Any tips on getting super glue out of the tail?

Doesn't acetone dissolve superglue? Can't remember, but I'd just pour some in the container's cap and dip the tail in. Just keep it away from the symbols, naturally.

i would suggest acetone too, i am sure i have removed glue from pony hair in the past that way. i would test a bit to start with just to be safe! white things don't bleach, but they can turn yellow instead
i am always careful!

I agree with PKW, I can't tell you how many ponies tails I accidently tore out and I would just force them back in via their tail hole (explains all these years later why they rattled afterwards) and that I clearly brushed their tails a little too hard... so her dad or mom could have easily popped the head off and then been like crap we gotta glue it back on... so I think he's original, and most people use a rehair tool, which involved gluing the hair in the head, and if they did another method his hair inside his head would probably be pretty thick... but I'd take someone else to compare just in case.
