A few weeks back my mom gave some old small beanie babies she had in storage. I questioned if it was a good idea since she has recently started selling some of her old collectibles on ebay.
She had me go look it up... It's pretty sad.
I see brand new ones pretty cheap each time I go to the flea market.

I remember they were about $4 or $5 at the toy store, they were my favorite things to get, especially the cat, horse, or dragon beanie babies (mostly cats, though). Of course, I am still attracted to very cute stuffed animals, but it has evolved beyond beanie babies. XD
Ginger- That's neat that you used to collect them with your mom! One of my biggest wishes as a kid was collecting something with somebody else, meeting up with him/her and saying "look who I found! Let's check it off the list and look for these guys next" or something. Haha.... like a treasure hunt. My cousin and my aunt used to collect beanie babies together, and they still have all of them stored away. I remember going into my cousin's room and seeing bins upon bins and shelves and closet overflowing with beanie babies. She used to actually refer to a checklist to see which ones she still needed- she said she had 500 or so, and that was when I was nine!

I think it's only the retired Beanie Babies and perhaps some of the international exclusives that are valuable. I've looked to see how much Beanie Babies are selling on Amazon, since I'm trying to work on a specific price range to sell the ones I have, and I've seen some being sold for as little as 1 cent.

You have to really watch out with the beanie babies. Last x-mas there was a retailer in the mall selling counterfeit ones for $5 a piece. Including caw, web, slither, patti in maroon forum, peanut in dark blue. I was fooled, purchased 20 different 'old school' ones and then tried to have them certified for authenticity and found they were counterfeit. I had the store reported to BBB and local police and it was closed down. Turns out the guy who was selling them was from New York, and opened the store here in California trying to sell them off. But who knows how many people actually bought them thinking they might be worth something before I caught the store red handed. I even got my money back. So yeah, buyer beware. There are still counterfeits out there. >.<

Oh my goodness, there's a pile of them in my old room in my parents' house! I got them from my aunt who lived in America Christmas, Birthday, and random visits would result in me getting a Beanie Baby. My first was Paddy the Platypus, my favourite was Freckles the Leopard. She's still my favourite. Oh! And Prance the kitten!
..they wer so awesome!

Beanie Babies used to be so big for me. I have over 200 of them still. They live in a huge tote in storage because I just don't have room. I can't bare to sell them either because they are a memory of my Great Grandma. We used to go to the two or three local stores that sold them once a week after school. It was something we did together. Now that she's passed, I can't let them go even though there are so many and they aren't worth anything. To me, they are priceless.

It really depends on what ones they are. For more recent ones, the pluffies series are somewhat valuable if you can find them for cheep.

I gotta say, some of them are super cute. I picked up a teeny little christmas penguin that has a little bell inside it, its the cutest little thing I also picked up a couple of random cute ones for presents throughout the year for some of the kiddies I have around me (what sort of child doesn't like a cute plushie?) I think just the sheer volume that were made is what has brought there price down.
