I'm moding ponies to look sort of like Male characters, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on this. Should I leave the MLPs alone? Or start taking away some curves to give it a more manly look?
Particularly I'm wanting this on the G4 ponies cause they're REALLY un masculine looking. The previous generations looked more horse like so their gender is more ambiguous.
Ideas?

Generally, adding hair to their hooves makes a pony masculine
Don't know why, but it does!

You'd be better off asking this in the Customs section. I'm sure someone there can help you better. :3

I agree that the G4s look more distinctly female than previous pony generations, where (personally) I could see almost any mold as being male or female. (And with G2 the males literally were in the same molds.)
I guess you could use clay or something to give them a squarer face.
Amazing avatar, BTW!

I've seen some other customizers do it.
Someone here used sculpty to do a MAcintosh custom that was cute!

Alright- how does the sculpty work in this case? Do I form it, remove it from the pony, bake it then glue it on? Or can I bake a pony with sculpy on it at 275 Fahrenheit for 15 minutes while it sets?
.... assuming it sticks to pony O.o

I have not baked a G4, but I have heard that they melt at normal sculpty temps. However, if you bake it lower and longer, you should be fine. The problem with removing it and baking it, then gluing it is that it may change shape during handling and\or baking.
And it does indeed stick to pony ^^

Do I need to sand down the pony in that area? And what's a good temperature?

i have not baked a g4...but i always make sure there is aluminum foil under the pony to keep some of the heat off.
baking it on the pony is recommended as the clay does often shrink up when its cured

I recommend using Apoxie Sculpt or another type of self hardening compound.
The thing I love about Apoxie Sculpt is no baking and no shrinkage. Once you get the hang of it it's easy to add all kinds of seamless modifications to ponies.

I tend to bake at 215-ish, and keep an eye on it. Usually around 20+ minutes. Sanding would be good to make sure it fits the face well. Also, no eyelashes, or super curly girly hair?
However, I've done -one- G4 male who I made no modifications to and I don't think anyone would mistake him for a her.
Good luck with your pony, though!
