PostPosted: 0    Post subject: Boycott Iams pet food

The other day I was at my moms and she brought out a newspaper clipping about Iams pet food... I guess Anna Nicole Smith is making the public aware of the cruelty behind Iams. The article red that in an undercover thing they found that Iams was testing their food on dogs n such, when they looked into it further 27 dogs had been killed and all the dogs that were kept in the reasearch facility had their vocal cords cut to keep them from barking.. not to mention the cramped coridors the animals were forced to endure. . .
here I found the web site www.iamscruelty.com/
hmmmmm dunno what to think.. I personally feed my dogs Science diet but I wonder if there is underlying cruelty that may go on with any pet food company....

Is it just pet food company cruelty you want to know about, or just any kind of cruelty in general.? There's what Iams does. There's vivisection. Then there's the cruelty animals endure before they're slaughtered for any type of food.

My Kitties eat Nutro. It is like good food verses the others which are more like Junk food. And my Bubba got a little more trim on it (although he was not fat). At first, they wouldn't eat it, but now they like it more than the other stuff.

Not to mention, I think it is so funny I get to serve my kitties Duck in tomato sauce lol!

Ive heard about iams cruelty before, but not much.
that site almost literally made me sick to my stomach.
ill be honest, im too lazy to go into great detail to research if this is true or not (i generally believe in researching the source of such news) and am just going to boycott 'just incase'.

ugg. but how many other petfood companies are guilty of similar tactics?

i dunno... so sad....

Luckily we don't feed my dog Iams anymore, we feed him Timberwolf.

I recall my 4H leader telling me how Iams was basically garbage for dogs. Not really good to feed animals.

My dogs don't like Iams, it's the only food they've ever refused to eat!

I've heard about Iams and the "Junk" Cat foods. We serve them Nutro's Natural Cat-and the love it. Well, I mean they eat it because every morning the food is gone-with 4 cats, we get the biggest bag, and it lasts them about a month. At 30 dollars for the big bag, I don't find it to pricey either. At least I know the food is good for them.

Iams is not a good food but don;t inflate petas ego by going to their site. They take peoples money and it goes to political statements, nto the pets. Our friends were down after katrina working their butts off and they said the peta people sat there witha fat dog adn a buckett collecting money. There aer so many things they do wrong it doesn't come close to any good. They have let go show dogs that get killed on highways, let dogs out of backyards etc. Look up some stuff on them, its not good. I did it in another post somewhere. Just remember you cna't believie everything you see from them. They had a video showing animals beat into the ground and skinned alive and it turns out they paid the people to do it. My post on petas at the bottom of the page here
www.mlparena.com/Forum...tml#403965 Its a good read:) If you don;t believie me,ask your local animal shelters. Nto a one by me supports them,or a thing they do. The one in oberlin did untill they said any pits or pit mixes needed pts.

Iams is a horrible food. Here is a great site to use if looking for a dog food

They ahve done these tests, there is no doubt on that. Its jsut that I don;t think they do them much now and peta is still on them about it. Every dog food company does tests, just not as bad as some others. But if you worry about dog food companies you also have to think of the companies that make dog medicine. they have to practive on pups, pregnent dogs, old dogs. I've heard heartworm testing is the worse Sad Its sad but it is something that needs done. they didn't test the injection enough and it killed a lot of peoples pets.

anything said or reported by peta needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

they protest outside of stores selling wool or leather, but they support hot topic (which carries leather products and has been well known for doing so) simply because the stores now carry peta merchandise.

they go into schools and try to convince young children (from kindergarten to second grade) that drinking milk is equivalent to murder, or that their mums and dads are bad people for making them eat meat.

they support the idea that putting an animal down is a better alternative to pet adoption programs; apparently a dead animal is better off than an animal in captivity.

i could go on. peta sickens me.

regardless, many pet food (and other) companies do carry out tests that are cruel to animals. it's a good idea to do your research before buying a product, if animal cruelty is something you feel strongly about.

I'll take this with a grain of salt, especially if organizations like PETA are involved (not to mention I consider anything Anna Nicole Smith to support to be kind of suspect). Sounds like the rumor that KFC raises beakless, multi-legged mutant chickens in wire cages for their restraunts.

But nevertheless I am cautious about what food my cats get, one of whom is an adoptee from a no kill shelter. I shudder what would of happened to my little black kitten had PETA been able to adopt her. As it is, I signed a contract where if I get rid of my kitten for no reason or neglect or abuse her, I pay a nice fat fine. I feed my kittens Purina One kitten food and it shows how good it is for them as they are healthy, active kittens.

To be honest, I don't go for radical anything and any news item I always take with a grain of salt. At least my Uni profs would be happy to know that a former student of theirs uses critical thinking to analyize any article that anyone puts out. What is the point of this article anyway? What logical reason is there to cut the vocal cords of dogs when testing food on animals? What audience is it written for, what are the motives of the authors?

I do know that anything made for pets, well at some point in time it was tested on pets. I can do little about it except to make sure my pets are spayed so they do not add to the surplus animal population. Meanwhile I will feed them what I am feeding them now, until they become adults. The first thing I look for in a food is to see if the first ingredient in pet food is meat (not a meat by product or a filler material). Then I know it's a good food. Oh yes, before laws were inacted dog food companies used to round up wild mustangs and grind them up into dog food cans.

Wow, what a long post. Poke Tounge
