Im doing laundry so Im not technically supposed to be here.... but I usually put a movie on my second monitor while Im doing my folding, and I chose Beauty and the Beast today cause its my fave.

so, I was thinking about my other fave disney movies, and I was drawing a blank - has the little mermaid ever had an OFFICIAL dvd release? I am hesitant to check ebay because most of the time the dvds on there are bootlegs.

can anyone confirm if it has or hasnt for me?

and if it has and I missed it, does anyone wanna sell me an official R1 dvd? well, my bf as Id have him buy it for xmas... 8)

Yes, Disney released The Little Mermaid on DVD in 2001. Nothing special, really, just a one disc with the movie. Not one of their special deluxe editions (which I don't think they've done with Little Mermaid yet).

I have a gently used copy if you're interested. I can clean it in my disc cleaner if you like (though there's no problems with the playability of it). PM me if you're interested.

I'm sure it will have a special edition sooner or later.

I read that the 2 disc platinum edition is supposed to come out in October of next year :). I'm pretty sure that it's been released on dvd already, but I'm waiting for the platinum edition.

It was re-realeased but mostly because of the cover controversy on the VHS. I really hope it comes out soon, it is one of my all time favorites, we do have it on VHS but it just isn't the same.

cover controversy?
damn, I guess they will never revisit that again

I loved the original little mermaid artwork SO much more than the new cover.... its kind of blech.

I know that the priest has a bit of a uhm, male related problem in the wedding scene, but I dont remember any art controversy. care to fill me in? if its not forum appropriate, msg me Wink

oh and thanks for the offer to sell, it looks like it will be released soon so I might wait a bit, we'll see if I get impatient. I havent seen it in a long time Wink

Just look at the pillars on the castle in the background, one stands out more than the others and looks a little like the male reproductive system.
Honestly I never would have seen it if someone hadn't pointed it out to me.

Just wanted to mention, thanks to this thread I dreamed last night I found the Little Mermaid DVD hidden on a back shelf. Smile I was so excited, I hate waking up from happy dreams like that.

LOL, I think I know every line to Beauty and the Beast. I watched it about a million times when it first came out, I think I was 12 or 13 when it came out.

ohhhhh mlp mom, me too! I think I was nine? I could be off on that. Im 22 now. but beauty and the beast was my thing - i wore out my vhs copy. I had the dolls (got em in disneland) , action figures, bedsheets, the comfortor, pijamas, clothes, the giant massive wall-paper stickers, calendars, posters - when the dvd came out a few years ago I got to the store an hour early by accident and watched it four times that day, LOL.

I love the story, I was always a daydreamer and was sometimes thought of as odd in elementary school (at least I had lots of friends, they just thought I was...strange...) so I could relate to Belle entirely. although, I bet everyone can.

and the artwork is so amazing..... I love the opening sequence in the forest, before the narrative.... so gorgeous!!!!!!!

in other news, I didnt realize/find out untill recently that ariels body was modeled after alyssa milano! I can totally see it now, too.
