Well, I never thought this day would come, but I'm considering getting out of the pony collecting business. I'm really getting into my doll collecting, and I find myself getting more and more disappointed with the G3 line as it continues. I've looked at websites, trying to get that spark of want back, but it's not happening. Today I stood in my doll/pony room thinking if I had ten minutes to take everything special to me out of the house before it was washed away by a tidal wave, how high would the ponies rank? Well, I can tell you my dolls were way above them on the list!
I have a great collection G3 wise...all three mail orders, the first eight, all three winter sets plus the babies, the birthstones, lots of exclusives....(PM me if interested) so if I sell everything, there are things that would be impossible to get back for the prices I paid...and yet...part of me doesn't care.
*sigh* Just ranting, I guess. I expected it to be a very dark day if I ever decided to stop, but instead I'm thinking of all the other things the money will bring! Not to mention doll collecting, with the exceptions of limited editions, isn't a race to get EVERYTHING in most cases. So that would make it less stressful for sure!
Have any of you went this way and what brought you back?

i went through a phase like that a couple of years back but then i was bit by the pony bug again. I've seen a lot of people just...grow out of ponies or find something else they love to collect (like Pullips) and get into those instead.

ROFL!
I haven't ever felt that way about ponies, but I have gone through phases where I give up other interests for awhile (Neopets, Sims...) and then I go back to them eventually. I would hate to see you sell your pony collection and then in a few months regret it. You might try putting the ponies up for awhile and if in a few months you still don't miss them or anything then consider selling them. Good Luck no matter what you decide though, hobbies should be fun so don't ever let them feel like a chore or what's the point?

I agree - like people said sometimes you just need a break before the spark comes back, and sometimes you will find something else. I always get depressed over how much money I spend on ponies... but then it feels so good when I get a pony 'fix' from eBay or shopping. I guess its all about what makes you happy.
Maybe if you just keep the ones you have that will remind you of your pony collecting joy and just dont get any new ones? I hope you can sort out in your mind a happy decision.

Sometimes I wonder if Monkey really needs anymore ponies because she has over 200 now I mean how many can an 8 and 1/2 year old really need? Most sit on the shelf most of the time. She plays with her new ones but does get out older ones time to time. I think about the money and what we could have or what we could buy in the furture with the money>.<. I get out of the phase and then I'm back at the pony thrill again I think it's that way with any toy:P

i do enjoy the G3s... but honestly i only but them if i feel like it... i don't feel the "need" to get them all. my love is for the G1s... probably cause they were the ones i played with growing up.

I gave up on ponies a few months ago. I still like looking at them and brushing their hair and I would never sell my childhood ones, but I just have no desire to spend any more money on them.

I go through that I mean, its more just a "rotation cycle" of collections for me. Before MLP there were Care Bears, and She-ra and well-other things, I know realistically I don't have the space for all. So I pick and choose which I prefer to have. I don't sell off everything, but there are times when I am just like there is too many to keep track of, and *gasp* some I don't even CARE for!
*grins* I think once I get back from the vacation, I am going to post more for sale

I'm still at the point where I cannot bear to part with any of my collection and I have tried to downsize, lol!
I have felt this way about the G3 line a few times. I stopped getting every one released about 6 months ago and haven't regretted it. I stopped buying the scooters and haven't regretted that. I don't buy all the playsets or all the alternate poses. Since I've cut back so much, I do wonder sometimes if I will still be collecting them at all in a year or so. If you ask me right now, the answer will be a definite yes still, lol!
I think I would just keep the ones you really like and a few of the really htf ones and splurge on some new dolls! Sounds pretty exciting!
Good luck with your decision!

Well. I have done this many times....I collect model horses and ponies. I switch off between them. One day I just spark into the other collection and don't really care about the other. But I always flip back.
I just got out of my model phase(sort of--Iam never really out of them)and more into ponies. Unfortunatly I packed my collection into the garage....and can't find them...
