I feel that way, but then I think of all the ponies I ended up not getting as a kid and what they cost me to replace now! I'd much rather buy them for retail then have to search for them later.
I don't buy all the reissues for my daughter, so I have kinda stopped with the "2 of every pony released" thing. If it's a new pony, fine, but how many Cupcakes or Pinkie Pies does one girl need? She's fine with the first issues of each, and she can decide when she gets older if she wants to get the rest. I have them all for myself, but that is more a retail issue, too. If I decide to sell them later, I can, but I hate the thought of trying to get them in a few years. We don't know what the market will be, and I don't want to end up spending 5 times what they sold for just because I wanted to save the $5 back when, ya know?

Quite honestly I've been struggling along with a lackluster love of ponies for about six months. When I mentioned I might sell my collection, my parents weren't shocked in the least. Instead my father's reaction was "I knew it was coming when we stopped going to four stores a week and the ebay packages stopped coming". I've sat down and went through my collection, sorting into the ones I have an attachment to and the ones I don't. It was staggering! I kept the important ponies I remember from my childhood that I had re-bought, my Summer Wings, Merry Treats, and I had to struggle to find more then Silver Glow I wanted to salvage from my G3 collection. I think that says it all.
I'll invest the money back into my doll collection, nothing else, so there won't be any regrets. I just really feel like this is the right thing to do, so why wait? It's not just ponies, I'm going through my entire slew of posessions and deciding what I do and don't use, don't care about anymore, don't need anymore. Clothes I don't wear could become clothes I want, same thing with everything, even collections.
I'm posting my sales list for the weekend, then the rest will hit ebay on Monday. Thanks for your input on this, guys. You guys totally rock! *huggles all around*

I am glad that you are happy with your decision, it sounds like you have put a lot of time and thought into it. I am sure you will have no problem selling any of them, good luck with it! I hope that you will still come here too even if you aren't collecting right now.

I actually had the thought yesterday about selling my collection! I was looking in our garage and sad that all my ponies are in there, instead of inside where they can be enjoyed. But then I started thinking more about it, and I would be sad if I didn't collect ponies. It's fun!

Congrats on your collection Ponyville. They are so much more expensive to buy in the stores here in Europe, not even considering hideous BINs and shipping from ebay! I have collected pretty much anything and everything from the G1 and G3 lines over the past couple of years. Sometimes I look at all the Paypal, Paypal, Paypal on my bank statement and kick myself but then I go and look at all the bright, sparkly ponies and feel instantly better.
I have decided to streamline my collection though. NO MORE LOOSE NIRVANAS! What I have got I am selling to contribute towards my new car and what I don't spend in the future will be invested in my HK/China collection instead.

I'm happy that you have made a solid, thought-out decision on something other than just impulse. I wouldn't want you resenting or regretting that. I agree with MLPMom, it sounds like you have put much thought into this, and I'm glad you came to a decision that you are comfortable with. Hope you at least decide to come around still, though!
I'll keep an eye out for your list.

I have... I mean I don't think you can collect for as long as I have and not thought about stopping. But then that's when I usually just vanish for a little while from the pony community, stop going to eBay and just let my ponys sit. The last time that happened it actually lasted almost a year 2004 was a bad year for me. I almost considered just selling them all off. After all I do still live at home and the idea of moving my collection *shudders* I could also use the money to pay off my college bills and start saving for my own house.
But then I don't think I could ever do it. The idea of selling them all of off is tiring. I'm having a hard time just sorting though them at the moment to sell of all my extas *honestly I have over 500 ponies in my trade bin*
I have thought about downsizing but I'm such a collector of things, I want them all so downsizing isn't really an option. So I tell myself that one day I'll have a place to display them all and show them off.
Until then I feel your pain,
~Ivy~

i have moments when i think blaah thats it no more and then i start looking at them again and start scouring ebay and im hooked again,i sold alot in the summer all my b/brothers and m/boys and all my euro babies(i had every single one) i thought i would regret it but i didnt so now i have decided that is not about the amount of ponies i have so now i just collect who i like wether its g3s or g1.
try and downsize first and then see how you feel, and if you decide to let them all go you know you have done the right thing for you.
