okay, these are the prototypes, I forgot the fins on the looking-up pose and I've sewed the tail swirl the wrong way on the wavedancer pose -

wavedancer: that does NOT look like me!


-yeah dancer... anyway, I'm going to be making them out of felt with thicker wool hair so I can do all the lovely colours and paint on fin-tips etc.. what do you think? I had to adapt the pattern from a standard pony and the only parts unchanged are the head gusset piece and the ears!
I'm really proud of them, and in the process I made a fancy mermaid pattern too

the second one looks a little funny in the neck department because I sewed her mane on the wrong side! whoops!

comments appreciated, also any tips on eventually using saran hair for this will be VERY welcome.

I'm hoping to make a few - perhaps sea pony versions of seashell and bubbles - and sell them to raise money for the Uk convention and hopefully make some money for myself and Summer (the horse) so we can do some fun shows this year.

They look great! Some day I too will master the concept of making my own pattern... well, probably not.

As for hair, could you sew the hair between two strips of plastic or basting, and then sew the plastic or basting anchor into the plush?

Those look fantastic! Did you use pleather to make your prototype? It looks really neat, makes her look ready to go for a dive.
I am in the process of doing a plush seahorse as well (should be done tonight)

thanks for the tip war pony! these were hand sewn, but that's just because they're protoypes, I'm hopefully going to be able to free machine eyes etc...
I may stick with the pleather for a while, but it depends on the colours I can get.

Oh wow! I love them! My favourite is the lookup pose. ^_^ Plushies (or even sewing for that matter) are so completely beyond anything I'm capable of, I'm just in awe. ^_^ Can't wait to see some finished products (and the fancy mermaid baby ones! Squee!)

I raided the fabric shop today, so now I can make most -if not all - the first and second year adults I'll try to get to grips with the sewing machine tonight and try out the little fancy mermaid pattern too
