PostPosted: 0    Post subject: Ponies Damaged by Canada Customs. Advice?

I received a package today (that's the good news) with five MOC baby G3's inside.

Before I go any further, I should say, I am not at all displeased with the seller/trader who sent them to me. From what I can tell, she packaged them well!

Canada Customs however, is quite another story. Long story short, the package was stopped at the border, opened, and unpacked. When it was repacked, whoever did it just stuffed the MOC ponies in, and balled up the bubble wrap and stuffed it on top instead of wrapping them up one at a time the way they were originally. This left the box they were in all bulged. Then it was taped shut.

Needless to say, when they arrived here, three of the five had cards that were bent so badly the bubbles had lifted off in several places.

Bear in mind, I am a MOC collector. Make that 'mint in mint package' collector for G3's. So just taking them off the card is kinda pointless. >.<

Has anyone had to deal with this problem before? I've emailed them, and plan to call in 48 hours if I don't get a response to the email (that is the earliest I can call them, since I work until after their office closes...). Any advice in the interm would be appreciated!

There were no notes or anything included to say exactly which officer is responsible.

Yeah. I really wasn't sure where to post it... here, off topic, or support...

Mods feel free to move this thread if need be. ^.^

I'm not sure what to say. But that is horrible what they did to your ponies!!
I have received packages that Canada post claims was damaged before they got it and they just threw the contents into a plastic SEE THROUGH bag and sent it to me that way. It seems they really don't give a rat's ass about the items inside the package.
I checked out Canadapost.ca and found this, but you've probably already found that out.
Damaged mail or missing contents

Just scroll down to that title. They give a phone number and info on what you should keep for proof of damage.

I hope they can do something helpful for you. You'd think that if they open the package and see something carefully wrapped inside, that they'd at least have the common curtesy to put it back into the box as they found it. Huh

If something like that happened to me, and Customs wasn't willing to make things right, I'd call my Representative (in your case, your MoP).

Edit: To be fair, too, I'd imagine that very few people think of packaging as a collectible item in itself. In the inspector's mind, the backcards and blisters are simply there to protect the Ponies, and are going to be thrown away by the recipient anyway.

I would definitely contact someone in customs about it, that is horrible that they treated your package so badly regardless of what was inside.

I am going to move this over to Trader Support for you. *hugs* good luck with it.

Yes!! I recieved a G1 pony that was opened by customs a few years back. The package was falling apart. If the pony was MOC, it would have been damaged.

Id call them up...give them double the trouble.

I asked my PO about what I sent to you and they said that a lot of people have been complaining to the USPS about Canadian Customs. I sent a box WELL PACKAGED of MIP ponies to another trader in Canada. They delayed her wait time. She was upset b/c I paid for AIR as agreed and it took over three weeks to get to her. Then it was all opened and not MIP anymore. But she was okay since she was opening them anyway. I don't understand, but this has happened twice now. I PM'd you who to ask about what she was able to do! I'm so sorry. I could kick a customs persons butt right now!! On Fire

They did the same thing to me awhile ago. I was going to open them anyhow, but that really isn't the point. By the time I got the ponies it looked like someone had jumped on the box. Not to mention it took forever for the package to finally get here. If I was a MOC/MIB collector I would have been ticked off.

Thanks guys. ^.^ Sapphire, I'm going into my PM's now (and will reply more to you there). I'll keep everyone else updated, but so far, I haven't gotten a reply to the email complaint I sent in. So tomorrow, I shall head to the phone.

Sheesh. What bad timing. Poke Tounge I'm having to deal with this right in the middle of buying a house. The phone has rung more times today than it has in the entire last year!

Does anyone know if this has happened with items that are being insured as well? Or just ones that have not been insured?

Also which way was it sent? AirMail Letter Post or AirMail Parcel Post?

With AirMail Parcel post I've noticed insurance is now included up to a certain amount? I've never had to file for it, but found it interesting to know it is out there and availiable.
As far as I know this is new, before you had to buy insurance, but now it is automatically included on AirMail Parcel Post only.

if you include a note int eh box that the items were meant to be MINT ON CARD and explain what that means normally they will put them back in nicely BUT that doesn't solve it allt he time ... have this issue pretty commonly with sending stuff to my brother in canada and yeah it ahppens no matter how you send it :\ sad thing is it could take three weeks for him to get something, but it only takes two or three to get something from him :\

and they really don't care how they put things back in the box :\ so i try to include a note that implies the importance of what it is that's being sent and the conditions have been better

sorry this happened to you Sad :\

Wow that is awful! I hope customs is able to do something for you. I've had them open my packages before but usually they just cut the tape and peek inside and not pile everything out.

Now I'm nervous about buying MOC's...*chews fingernails*
