...And I have a question for anyone versed in the grandmotherly arts of yarncraft and other such witchery. When ye olde arcane pattern calls for "stocking stitch" --- is that the same thing as stockinette, as in knit, purl, knit, purl?

Thanks hathorcat, I figured that's probably all it was, but wasn't sure.

I fail in the mastery that is knitting xD
One of these days I would love to get my nonna to teach me though^^ |
LOL, I used to watch my grandma do it when I was a kid. She always told me that knitting is too difficult, and wouldn't teach me. Well... I figured it out. I'm not super great at it, but the needlework itself is not too difficult. It's like crocheting sideways.

I've been knitting for 12 years... and Crochet for 3 months. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I'm 10x better at Crocheting! Ravelry.com is a great free pattern site/social network. I'm jazzmatazz29 on there. It's a great skill to learn and to get decent at it it takes a lot of practice and once you understand one well it's easy to switch back and forth cause you can see the stitches easier with a trained eye so learning the other form is easy peasy.

A hideous dish rag, for starters. I will probably just unravel it. Such a thing has no place in my kitchen!
I bought knitting supplies to make some new ear pads for my headphones, because I didn't feel like spending $20 on new pads for a $150 set. But I wanted to brush up on my stitching first, and I actually needed pot holders and dish rags anyway...

Wow! I've been able to knit since I was about 7 but never done a complicated looking pattern like that! I've just made teddy bears and blankets for charity.
At school we had a knitting group with one of the parents coming in to teach us. We sat around knitting and telling ghost stories

I don't knit, but I live with someone who does. She's become such a yarn snob that now we take it from raw wool, dye it, spin it, etc.
Your work looks good so far, though! Keep it up!
