#1: I Must Be Crazy Author: RavenWolf, Location: WisconsinPosted: 0 ---- So after living in my current apartment for over 5 years I've been toying with the idea of moving and the more I thought about it the more I realized I really hate this apartment. feeling like everyone is living on top of each other and no view out the window except the neighbors living room across the walkway. I looked at a couple of duplexes today and I really love them so, I did it, I just gave my landlord notice that I'm planing to move when the lease is up at the end of the month...
What was I thinking??? I was fine well planning to move and writing the to do lists. I've been happily daydreaming about living in one of those gorgeous duplexes with a yard all to myself. But talking to my current landlord just made it so final and I think I'm having a panic attack about what all moving is actually going to entail, especially trying to pack up and move my large pony collection. I'll think about what it will be like to have a yard and a garage and basement all to myself and can't wait and then my brain sabotages me with what if I don't get one of those duplexes and I can't find a place in time and then I feel like I can't breath.
It helps writing about it so thanks for listening to my rant.
Please tell me moving isn't as scary as I'm making t out to be. I would also greatly appreciate any moving tips!

Pack a room at a time - and label the boxes as such. So pack all your kitchenware, etc. Be precise. Don't label something "kitchen" label it "kitchen - pots and pans etc"
I would pack the ponies in those big plastic Rubbermaid totes. I know Target has those on sale often, and you can probably use them after you unpack to store off-season clothes, christmas decor, etc. Try plastic bags for the loose ponies.
Buy a lot of bubble wrap. Newspaper and paper might be cheap but invest in some good bubblewrap. I like to buy rolls cheap at Big Lots.
#3: Re: I Must Be Crazy Author: lemontwist, Location: Eugene, ORPosted: 0 ---- I love moving! I think it's fun. You get to see all your stuff that you haven't paid any attention to in ages, pack it all up, and find cool new places to put everything in your new home.
The biggest thing about moving is making it easy on yourself. DO NOT wait til the last minute to start packing. You can fill two or three boxes a day starting now and it'll be a breeze, but if you wait too long packing is just stressful! Just lay out clothes that you wear most, kitchen and bathroom items you use daily, etc and start packing everything else. With labels, in case you need to find something, lol. And like SD said get some plastic totes for your ponies. I know my wal-mart has a bunch of red and green ones for sale in their Christmas clearance section.
Start telling your friends you're moving and get them to help when the day comes to move boxes. It's funner and easier with friends, plus movers just scare me lol.
And it's normal to feel nervous or scared about moving! Don't feel bad about worrying because then you'll only feel worse. You're just reacting normally to a big upcoming change! As long as you stay organized, make things easier by not putting anything off, and remember to be excited then everything will be okay!

#6: Re: I Must Be Crazy Author: melodys_angel, Location: Ontario, CanadaPosted: 0 ---- Aww hun! Im sure it will all be fine^^
Moving can be an adventure--just make sure you get your family and friends to help you out come moving day (or even to pack stuff). It will feel alot less daunting then^^
#7: Re: I Must Be Crazy Author: RavenWolf, Location: WisconsinPosted: 0 ---- Thanks everyone, I'm really trying to look at it as an adventure and I've packed the first couple of boxes. I think I'll feel better about moving once I sign the lease for the new place, I think thats whats causing the majority of the anxiety, all the what ifs.
#8: Re: I Must Be Crazy Author: Mantispony, Location: BelgiumPosted: 0 ---- Over the last 12 months, I've moved no less than 5 times
1 from Belgium to Reading (England)
2 from Reading to London
3 from London to Slough (still England)
4 from Slough back to Belgium, to live with my parents
5 from my parents' house to my own apartment
Moving house is like going on an adventure, something new and shiny Especially if you've wanted it so bad for so long. I'm happy for you that you get to do what you've been wanting to do!
#9: Re: I Must Be Crazy Author: PawPrince, Posted: 0 ---- Moving itself isn't that big a deal, but I would be nervous about ending a current lease before actually having somewhere to go first. You better sign a lease and set a move-in date right away if you know that's where you want to go, and that they have a vacancy. I don't know how it is where you are, but around here it can be next to impossible to find someplace to rent until summer when all the students leave... and if you do find someplace before then, it's not going to be the kind if place you would want to live!
Other than that, best advice I can give is make sure your utilities get transferred over or discontinued at the proper date, especially when it comes to cable & phone companies, because those people are incapable of keeping anything straight. Call and cancel them, then call again and confirm that they are scheduled to be cancelled or transferred. Then call again in a few days. Make them send you a final statement. You can never be too sure. I have seen them do some strange things.
