PostPosted: 0    Post subject: how to repair sweet talkin ponies??

Does anyone know how to repair these? mine isnt working and I assume it just needs a new battery, but when I tried to take the head off it seems to be attached with something metal inside, and I dont want to risk breaking it by forcing it off. Has anyone had any luck getting inside these and fixing them? Id love to hear mine talk. thanks guys Smile

******UPDATE*******

I fixed her I fixed her yay!!!!!!!

the problem was a broken speaker, I tried a similar speaker from an old toy I had and it works! Now I just have to go to maplins and get a speaker the right size and she will be as good as new! huraahhh!

I think the head should twist off, so try twisting the head Smile Once you get the head off, I think there are 2 small screws that you need to remove to get to the battery.

It's been a while since I've taken one apart, but it's not hard Smile

thankyou very much for your help, I twisted the head and it came right off and there were no batteries inside, so I replaced them with three butten cell batteries. Unfortunatly she still doesnt talk Sad
Ive checked the contacts and theres no corrosion.
is there anything else I can do? Im thinking about trying to remove the tummy speaker to try and get a better look at whats going on inside. There could be a loose wire or something.

try flipping the battery around Smile If I remember correctly, the battery will fit in either way.

And are you sure that is the right battery for her? (my guess is that you already checked to make sure it was the right battery, but just in case)

I can check mine again (I have a note inside mine saying what kind of battery they take because I took the batteries out).

I don't know if US batteries and UK batteries are the same, are they?

Whack her on the table! That's what I did to mine (accidentally, I may add) and she just suddenly started working. I have NO idea why, freaked the hell out of me too Drunk

Good luck on geting her working! (BTW, probably best not to whack her on the table, unless you REALLY don't like her ... I'm pretty sure mine was a freaky one-off coincidence Wink )

well, I took the mechanism out! Cant see anything wrong with it though Sad tried everything but I guess shes unfixable. If anyones interested I took pictures of the internal mechanism. I tested all connections with a volt tester and checked the wires, everything seems ok, cant understand whats broken.

Wow, I have never seen the mechanism before!

Can you get it back in the pony now that you have taken in out or did you have to destroy (for a lack of a better word, sorry!) the pony to get it out?

That's such a cool pic! I've never seen one taken apart before.

Could be a loose connection? Or it's possible she was always faulty. Was it the purple or the pink one?

No, I didnt have to destroy the pony suprisingly! took a lot of hard work to get it out though, mostly just because of the glue. I think the mechanism could be back in quite easily through the neck and it shouldnt look like its been taken apart at all. I took some pictures of the pony to show you, shes a bit dirty because I havent cleaned her yet Smile

This is just a guess, but do you think maybe she was submerged in water at some point in her life? I know this is a sure fire way to kill the blinking earrings feature of Hasbro's Jem dolls. I do remember let's say some -accidental-dunking of my childhood Jems and they never got rusty but their earrings did stop flashing, lol.
