PostPosted: 0    Post subject: How to Re-Tail a Custom

Hi all, I put together a tutorial on how I re-tail a pony some time ago but haven't done much with it. I think I posted it in someone's question thread a while back but thought I'd create a dedicated thread so it would be searchable. I'll also be putting a link to this thread in the tutorial sticky.

Anyway, I hope this helps some of you. It's the easiest and most secure way I found to make a tail. Wink

Just wanted to pop in and say I used to have the hardest time doing tails, trying to shove them in and everything. I used to really struggle with them, usually messing up the paint around the tail on my FBR's, which all of my customs have been. Pop's method is so so easy to do, and gets the tail in nice and secure!

I always search this tutorial down when people ask about tails. I'm glad you re-posted it Pop Happy

LOL! I made this tutorial some time last summer but your recent thread made me realize that I hadn't posted it. Poke Tounge

this is slightly different from what I do (I put on the zip ties first and pull the tail out from the inside)
but this might make the pulling easier -- i may have to try it ^_^

Will this work with G4? Or would the zip ties be too big?

You can buy smaller zip ties so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a G4. Wink

Oh hey... this is nice. I use a variation of this for my pony tails. My only difference is that I use floss instead of the wire. Careful to avoid the dollar store zip ties. The ones I got were not flexible enough and would snap in the middle of zipping them.

Works just fine on a G4 pony. I buy packs of 100 zipties from the automotive section in Wal-Mart. They are only around $2 Smile I use this method on all my customs.

Awesome tutorial, Pop! accomplished

that is awesome! you have written these instructions in an easy to understand way that it has made me want to try my own custom (still a little scared on the whole re-rooting of the mane though)

I just can't get my tail through the small G4 hole and I'm afraid if I try to use any more force I'm gonna wreck something on the pony. Any recommendations on how I can get the tail through? *cries* I've seen many of you put in thicker tails than I'm using.

use a smaller amount of hair and then pull. It may split the paint a bit if it's a full body repaint but that's easily fixed. Just be brave!
