PostPosted: 0    Post subject: Light Experiment - Fading Pink *Updated - Week 6*

I was inspired by Tuney's thread about fading pink hair a bit ago found here.

It got me thinking, how badly does artificial light affect pink hair? So I decided to run a small experiment to find out what common types of light would do.

I used a brand new hank of Dollyhair Pussycat, which is the equivalent of the fading pink. I cut four equal lengths and labeled them (sorry about the glare):

WEEK%204: WEEK%206:

It took 6 weeks for the hair to completely bleach in the sun. The others remain unaffected. They are identical to unexposed Pussycat. So, just keep your ponies out of the sun, common types of artificial light, even "daylight" light are safe ^^

Yikes! I know it's direct sunlight and all, but a week still seems awfully fast! D:

Cool experiment!

Wow, this is neat! I've always been super freaked out about fading bodies and hair, so this is really helpful. I'll keep checking back. Happy

Cool experiment!

I should've said I'm in Florida too, so it's also very eye searing bright and hot sunlight! It takes me like three days to sunfade ink marks.

Interesting results; I'll be curious to see how long it takes the one in sunlight to fade completely.

what a great idea! although it has made me very paranoid about any of my girls with pink hair.. might have to go home and make sure everyone is out of the sun!

Cool experiment! I'm hoping the ctrl piece doesn't fade much, cause I like having my ponies on display... but I do worry they'll fade.

Wow I can't believe how fast it faded in the direct sunlight! I'm interested in the compact fluorescent too. Thats what I have in my office/pony room.

Fascinating! I'll be watching this with interest.

I'm amazed by how much the sunlight piece has faded in only a week, that's really shocking. Can't help but wonder whether the average amount of sunlight here would make a noticable difference though!

I really hope your experiment proves that artificial light is not damaging.

Your experiments are fantastic! I'll be watching this one with the hopes that the fluorescent isn't too terribly harmful to hair that's prone to fading. (Thank goodness I don't have to worry about too much natural light!)

I will join the choir and say thank you for doing this! This experiment will greatly benefit the whole community ^^

I must say though, I was also shocked to see the damage sunlight did to the hair, but when I read where you are, I felt kinda relieved

Because now we, that live far north, at least don't have to worry too much about sun fading our ponies unwillingly, despite the fact that we take ages to fade them willingly (if at all in my case). So there is at least one plus side to it Happy
